Temp gauge

Featured Replies

Hi, i've recently fitted a new green temp sensor (from a skoda dealer) to my mk1 octavia vrs.

It's now been fitted for almost 10 days and the temp gauge is reading all over the place, sometimes at 70ish or nothing.

Every couple of days the management light rears it's ugly head again with the same fault.

Does any one have any ideas what the problem could be.

What's the fault?

Deos the temperature drop when travelling at motorway speeds? If so, it could be your thermostat is stuck open.

What fault code is the ECU throwing?

The fault code is 17704, it does drop more on the motorway, didn't think of the thermostat, i'll replace it and see how i go. cheers for the advise.

I did not understand very well your description but, if your gauge is not showing 90 degrees but it keeps showing below 90 then it is a broken - stucked open thermostat. If so there is no major problem because your engine is not getting overheated. If gauge's readings is above 90 degrees then it more serious and need to be checked, but still is thermostat's problem. This time probably he is broken - stucked closed.

Mine previous 1.6 2002 petrol Octavia did the same. I first replaced the green temp sesnor but she kept dropping her temp. It was summer with ambient temperature above 35 Celsius. After two weeks (was on vacation) I replaced the thermostat and everything was fine till I sold her.

Oops!!!

I didn't see your last post. Definetly thermostat then.
