Gauges

Featured Replies

I while ago I was asking people which would be the best place to install a couple of AEM gauges I got for my Fabia. I did a lot of research and I finally decided to mount them on the steering column for a number of personal taste reasons.

For other brands like Audi and VW there are great products to aid in fitting gauges on the steering wheel.

Best example being Podi

and then there is NewSouth which can be found on Awesome-GTi.

Nothing though for the poor Fabia and nothing fits as I first thought of getting one of these VW/AUDI pods and fixing/mold them onto my steering column but too much work and patience which I don't have. So I started looking for further solutions and the most elegant I could find was these pods made and sold by Craven Speed. http://www.cravenspeed.com/products/The-Belmont.html I like the fact that these pods don't take up a lot of space that allow you to pivot the gauge, that they are made from metal so they are very sturdy and the finish really suits the car interior so they don't look out of place. The package is complete with all necessary tools and accessories you need to mount them on the steering column. By the way I found out that they got also a dealer in the UK at this address but I'm not sure if these pods are as the ones I got (http://www.lohen.co.uk/shop/products.php?cat=121)

Of course setting the sensors and running the wires of the AEM gauges through the firewall and into the back of the dashboard and then on the sides of the column was a pain. Almost 4 hours of hard work in order to make everything look tidy and almost factory set. The end result though was what I had hoped for. The gauges are in the best spot possible as they don't distract me while I'm driving, even at night, I can still read all information from my speedometer and rpm gauges as the pods sit at the "dead" zones of those gauges and the switches on the side are fully functional. The wires are hidden and only from the sides you can notice them but as you will see from the pics it is not that obvious.

I will try and get for you some pics at night, maybe a vid. Overall a good investment.

Here is a short vid. I had a play with the colors of the water temp gauge and I must say I was disappointed.

It cycles through 7 colors as stated in the manual and as I've seen online but the green is a crappy green almost yellow

Red it stays! nothing I can do about it now. Pffff.

 Very nice. Hard to fit ?

Yes mate it is :dull: to run the wires through the firewall and through the hole right behind the dash was a pain plus I didn't want to punch extra holes to the body of the car so the whole process was very carefully done. Installing the gauges was no biggy.
