Diognostic wire

Featured Replies

Im sure I have seen it recently but with there are so many replies using the search facility I thought I would ask (that and getting a headache looking at the threads).

The wifes Fabia has a aftermarket stereo fitted and when I plug in the ebay special vag-cam lead it wont find the car put the original stereo back in and it will.

Now I know I have seen it before but which one is the diognostic wire and what do I need to do to it to make life easier for myself.

Thanks in advance

If memory serves me, Its the Blue/white wire!

If the Stereo has it's own loom, Cut and tape the corresponding wire. If not, With a bit of patience (And lots of harsh language) you could remove the pinout from the ISO block and tape it back!

Have you asked the seller of the lead?

or are all they interested in doing is ripping off someone else's work and giving no support when it doesn't work the way it should?

lead works fine in the Superb and in my old Octavia just not in Fabia with aftermarket stereo fitted so not a problem with my ebay special cable which is about 3yrs old now

Just want to find out what to do with then wire and which one it is

Do I just have to disconnect it fron the block that plugs into the stereo?

But they should (and mine does) work in any VAG vehicle no matter what radio is fitted

They are cheap for a good reason, normally for some or all of the following reasons:

They are a ripped off copy

There is no R&D by the maker

There is little or no support given

They cannot be updated without the seller cracking the update

They have limited functions available.

That would stand to reason, however it has been rumoured that an aftermarket radio and ebay type cable can put 12V straight into your laptop - not good

Not so, on the first comment. Its more down to the make of stereo fitted. I had my car mapped at shark and Ben had to take the ecu out to map it as his systems wouldnt talk to the car and visa versa. Surely they dont use rip off copies?

Ben would not be using VCDS to remap the car anyway (as VCDS cannot remap the ECU)

I have yet to scan a car with a non OE radio fitted that my Ross-Tech interface does not recognise. (I have scanned quite a few)

My post on OEM wiring for the HIFI in the Fabia Tech section here

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/196288-oem-wiring-loom-colours-pins-for-stereos/

The info you need quoted here

THESE ARE THE COLOURS & PINS OF THE OEM SKODA WIRING LOOM TO CONNECT TO THE STEREO HEAD-UNIT

BLACK CONNECTOR (this has the release clip offset on the side)

8d/pin1 = White cable with Purple stripe = vehicle speed sensor (to increase volume with speed) OEM single DIN head-unit may not have a pin for this. (Pin function is correct with ISO)

8d/pin2 = vacant (This according to ISO is for the mute function of a connected telephone)

8d/pin3 = Grey cable with White stripe = VAG diagnostics through EOBD socket (DO NOT USE WITH NON OEM as 12v and can muck up your new head unit, especially if a diagnostic tool is connected!!! So disconnect from plug or cut and seal live end of wire) (This according to ISO is for the reversing light signal)

B) B)

8d/pin4 = Brown cable with Red stripe = 12v switched supply with ignition (This according to ISO is for a 12v constant supply)

8d/pin5 = Black cable with Blue stripe = 12v constant supply to battery via Fuse No. 45 (20A) OEM single DIN head-unit does not have a pin for this, as this is to provide additional power for double DIN satnav unit. (This has on other VAG cars been a Brown cable with Red stripe = 12v switched supply with ignition) (This according to ISO is for the electric retractable aerial)

8d/pin6 = Grey cable with Blue stripe = dashboard illumination (Pin function is correct with ISO)

8d/pin7 = Black cable with Blue stripe = 12v constant supply to battery via Fuse No. 45 (20A). (This has on other VAG cars been a Red cable = 12v constant supply to battery via fuse No. ??) (This according to ISO is for a 12v switched supply with ignition)

8d/pin8 = Brown = Earth to E3 earthing point (Under the centre console in front of the gearstick) (Pin function is correct with ISO)

B)
