Serviced today and another suspect oil grade

Featured Replies

Had a service today on my 2L petrol with fixed servicing, its an FL and they used 502 this time, last year it was 504. In the book it was ticked for fixed service oil. I have sent an e-mail to query and wondered it 502 in real terms is an issue. I'm sure they'll change it if its wrong anyway. Thanks.

Go back in and go absolutely mental if you were on variable before and they changed it without asking nothing more annoying for them than an angry customer in the place kicking up a fuss rather than a email sitting in an inbox.

no i was on fixed before! still fixed no so thats ok.

VW 502 00 is the correct oil spec for your car on fixed service intervals. VW 504 00 is for flexible service intervals and is what the car leaves the factory with. You use 504 00 instead of 502 00 if you don't mind the extra cost.

That's what I was under the impression but the manual states 504 for both forms of servicing. :|

Got my top up oi, its Castrol same as used by dealer. Still puzzled why they don't just use the same grade, next year I might ask for the long life again but I wonder if there is a compromise and the 502 offers better protection in the shorter term.

Just had my first variable service at a Skoda dealer.

Oil used was Shell Helix U.

Is that the right stuff ?

I reckon so, my Scout and vRS have Shell Helix stickers on the slam panel under the bonnet and on the folder used to hold the manual.

I thought petrol on fixed servicing was 502 and variable 504. A VRS though was definately 504 for both. Clearly stated

on Skoda's website. I have a 1.8TSi on fixed servicing and by choice I use the better quality 504 because the price difference

is minimal. I would complain and get them to change it and show the page on your owners manual.

I spoke to Skoda themselves who did confirm its 502 for fixed and 504 for variable. I looked at the various manuals on the website. The first manual fo the FL says 504 for both, but it then changed! :dull:
