Alarm going off for "no" reason

Featured Replies

In the last two months the alarm on my Mk II 2009 Superb 170 CR Tdi Hatch has gone off 3 times at the most inappropriate time (this morning 2.08 am). The car is garaged and it appears to happen when the car has been sitting unused for a time (> 12 but < 24 hrs) and there is quite a drop in temperature between the time last used the time the alarm sounded. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Hi

I have had problems in the past with the alarm going off during the night on my seat ibiza mk4

I found out that it would either be a drop in voltage causing it or sensors inside setting it off

In the end it was down to the battery which was 10 years old and only holding 6% charge!

I would get a scan done on your car and check load prevention isnt showing or anything like that - all points to battery

Tom

A dealer scan should reveal why the alarm keeps going off. I have had mine go off in the middle of the night, the cause was that the hatch was not closed properly, so I opened the twindoor and closed it again and it never went off a second time that night.

Thanks ........

Check for any insects or flies in the car cabin, they may sometimes trigger alarms thanks to interior security sensors ;)

I think the only flies in a UK car at this time of the year will be dead ones...

I had this problem when new. The alarm would go off at all hours of the night in my closed garage. At first I thought it was R.F. from my wife's Honda which was parked adjacent and had an intermittent fault in the central locking but eventually, my local dealer had to download a fresh copy of software (from somewhere!) and it is now as sweet as a nut!!

The alarm on my 2012 superb suddenly started going off and literally drove me crazy. Imagine being told by security that your car was going off at night in the secure car park and could you pop out and stop it. Then when you get home at 06:30 and try and relax before bed with a cuppa it sets off again. Fair to say I was at the end of my tether. I didn't find out about the fuse 34 which disabled the alarm  till I'd booked it into the skoda dealers in donny for a look see.

Anyhow, computer hook up fee of  £75 and a new alarm unit at  £175 and finally it's sorted...or is it?

Two days later and it's off again. Back to the dealer with much teeth gnashing and apparently the new unit  (the ones that can die after 5 years or less) is not compatible with the cars wiring. Some rewiring and it's now sorted...for now ##!

If I'd known to take the fuse out i think I'd have just left it disarmed tbh

@linf I think I have a similar problem as you. The alarm goes off within a few minutes of setting it. No doors or windows open and sensors look clear.

The problem is that I cant lock the car as the alarm will go off .

I have an appointment in the garage in 7 days but need to do something in the meantime.

I see there is a fuse for the alarm will popping that out do me for the time being ?

Will I loose anything else like key fob etc ?

Its damn annoying not being able to lock the car...

There is a fuse for the alarm but I can't remember which one of the top of my head. I'm sure it's mentioned in this thread.

The outcome for me was a new alarm unit to give me some peace back.

Try disabling part of the alarm for now (every time you leave car) by pushing button on A pillar before you lock / set alarm
