dashboard backlights not working

Featured Replies

Hi

Has anyone managed to resolve the problem of the dashboard backlights not working. They were working intermittantly but now they seem to only occasionally work.

This obviously makes it difficult to see speedo/rev counter etc

The light for headlights/main beam work

I have a 2000 reg Fabia 1.9SDI

My husband has had a look and the lights are not just normal leds but tiny pin head type on a 8 legged chip of some sort, so I dont think we can change them our selves, but as they have all gone out I dont think it is individual bulbs anyway.

I have checked the fuses and they look ok

Any recommendations for repairers would be useful

Thanks

Kate

Do the cigarette lighter and other things light up as expected?

One possibility is the little wheel in the light switch intended to adjust the illumination level is faulty.

Sounds very plausible to me.

That's where I would start looking

all other lights are working, doesnt seem to make any difference turning the wheel for brightness, but they do still work intermittantly

Likely to be a wiring/connection issue somewhere then

Yes I was hoping someone could narrow down the likely problem area for this. In the instrument cluster itself or somewhere else.....
