Brake Lights

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've spent my day at Mercedes benz world at brooklands, and been playing in some AMG's and I've noticed that when you brake hard the brake lights flash. now i was wondering if this can be retrofitted :mmm:

any ideas?

cheers guys

Foot on and off the pedal really fast ? Kinda like we had to do before the days of ABS.

Ohhh I like the sound of this.

Bit confusing to the driver behind wondering if you are braking and lights are going off/on) .

They may not make no movement to their foot-brake until too late when their vehicle hits yours up the tail-gate.

Then to explain the police officer you have interfered with brake-light system, and then explaining this story to your insurance company.?? (No brainer to me.)

Surely it would be better if the hazards flash

when braking really hard. That's standard kit on

a lot of new cars but it would need something

that measured braking inertia. Doubt it could easily

be retro fitted. Maybe cars with ESP would have some of the kit

needed to make it work??

Lots of cars already on the road have this, astra vxr`s for one, dont see people rear ending them all the time do you?

it can be done quite easily BUT only to the high level brake light to conform to C&U regs.

FLASH FLASH!

a chap in my road has this fitted to his Lotus Elise. bloody annoying when you're behind him but i guess that's exactly the point

They did it not long after i bought the car and had to pull up sharply on a bad bend, due to some bint allowing her child to run across the road.

Sure i have read it's a safety feature so should be on all the fabs.

Been trying to read around. Some previous threads...

http://briskoda.net/...ing-indicators/

http://briskoda.net/...raking-enabled/

So something can be enabled in VAGCOM/VCDS but unclear if it does anything on some Fabias. Perhaps it requires certain features in the controllers such as ABS/Central electrics that were added later.

It was a very harsh stop i made, was also going up hill as per the other threads i did not have to switch car off for them to stop flashing.

YET!! give it time. LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Been on them for years so I can't see it myself

I suppose you could place and wire-up an indicator relay up to the high level brake-light, drawing power from the high-level brake-light power feed. Hmmm!!! cheap possible idea ??

I'd be happy with the top light flashing but only really if I was braking hard, it'd be annoying if I sat in traffic with my foot on the brake gently and it was flashing...

Still have the modifying your braking system which could be an insurance issue.

Volvo used to have a system that lit the brake lights early depending on how fast your foot came off the throttle rather than how hard you're on the brake. They reckon at 70mph the extra 0.2s will save you a car length or so.

yer i'd agree with that x
