Newbie - Is my key fob dead?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just bought a second hand Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi Ambiente on a 02 plate that's done 75k and I must say it's an excellent car!

One small thing though, I have both 2 button key fobs and they don't work. Not a huge deal as I can open and start the car with the key, but it would be nice to get the remote locking/unlocking working.

I did the obvious and changed the batteries in both fobs but still no joy, I can't even get the LED to flash by holding or pressing the button.

I did try the key re code here - http://www.programyourkeys.com/Program_Car_Keys_-_Skoda.html but no joy, I am assuming they keys are dead? if I bought this - http://shop.tmc-car-keys.co.uk/skoda-remote-key---1j0-959-753-ah---octavia-fabia-felicia-superb-152-p.asp would it work?

The dealer is going to charge £150 for a new key and re code, not the kind of money I can afford after just buying the car!!

Any help would be greatly received.

Thanks,

D

Try polishing the new cell a bit; they sometimes have a protective grease on them that stops them making contact.

The key looks right compared with mine (also a 2002 car), but I've never used the company.

Agree with Ken on this one, my Keyfob was playing up, not always registering the key presses, took the battery out, cleaned the terminals with a knife and all's well

Yeah i know this is 3 years on from the start of this thread, but i have got to say my wife key stopped work on our octavia 2 VRS, it would lock from the button but not unlock and the light did not flash either, change battery no good, tried the above, polished new battery and cleaned the contacts everything sweet after that, great save me £££.

Hi,

I have an 03 sdi with two keys, one will only open the door and the other will start the car, what I don't understand is why anyone should charge £150 for a key? is it made from gold? or is this just another rip off?

I think it is just Main Dealer prices for a key and re code. Never mind, all fixed when I put the battery in the right way around..........

When you buy parts from a dealer, you're not just paying for the parts and storeman, but part of the overhead for the workshop, new and second-hand sales, and showroom as well.
