I get to drive a few cars now and then and this week I drove a Mercedes CLK 55 AMG and omg what a noise that engine do make, I can't get it out of my head.

Imagine sitting on the nose of a Spitfire and that's what it sounds like.

My mate got a R34 skyline and it's got nothing on this thing.

But to look at, it just looks like a normal merc convertible.

What a beast!!

Pointless thread but never taking interest in merc's before, I now do and it's amazing to see these oity toity people driving around in these things not realising what an awesome car they're driving.

Love the engine but don't like Mercs in general. Wonder if with some mods that engine could be put in a Superb and with 4WD would be awesome

They do make a nice noise, i have been in a E63 AMG following another hard charging E63 and the combined noise is something else.

If you ever get the chance to go to Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands, it is well worth the visit.

Essentially the same engine that went into the McMerc SLR, just less power. I bet it sounds even better in the SLR though!

I work next to a Mercedes specialist. I see a lot of merc's.

It's surprising the power on even some of the really old ones.

Yet to see a Brabus there yet though as it's just a repair place and not a dealer.

Engine is not a V12 or a supercharged V8, jesus i expected better on a car forum.

it's the same engine as a clk500 but it's been breathed on by AMG, taking power from 306bhp(2000-2005) to 347bhp. i think they increase from 5l to 5.4l basically

they did do a rare 55amg kompressor model that took the figure up to 500bhp

FYI the car above including options cost over £121,000 new!!! and it's yours for 10K. 500bhp, and extra possible luxury conceivable.
