Wiper behaviour: Full to intermittent

Featured Replies

Something I noticed last week that I am sure never used to happen when I bought the Yeti...

The wipers switch to intermittent when you come to a stop, say at traffic lights. I am sure before they would continue running normally. When you start off again they go back to fully continuous.

Has anyone noticed this? I wonder if its a program upgrade when I had it in at the Vets for a service.

Quite normal it's a standard feature; had this on a number of VAG cars including my previous 59 plate SE :)

Regards,

TP

Quite normal.

+1

Both my 2007 Octavia vRS and 2008 Octavia Scout do this.

My mates 2008 VW Touran does it as does a 2009 Audi A3 company car at work.

You may have previously had the sensitivity switch set to high, which would probably mean the wipers keep running even when you stop. If they've moved the switch to a less sensitive position (ie to the left) then what you describe is indeed normal.

Ok, must have simply not noticed before, or I was automatically turning them off when stopped without thinking.

Oddly enough, it took me a while to notice this, possibly because I was in the habit of turning the wipers down/off when I stopped. As I have figured it, the front wipers go down one step when you stop, so if they are on high they drop to normal, if on normal they drop to intermittent, and if on intermittent they stop. I've also noticed that when the wipers are on continuous, the rear wiper goes to intermittent, although not as frequent as when you turn it on seperately. (I think you may be able to adjust this in maxidot.) Whatever, I think this a very good idea and, as far as I can see, it's not even mentioned in the catalogue etc.

It is indeed mentioned in the handbook.

I think you'll find it under convenience settings?

When the front wipers are on continuously and the vehicle speed is over 30mph (50kmh) then the rear wiper sweeps intermittently.

This can be programmed on switched off in maxidot.

But who reads the handbook? My point is that this a very good idea that Skoda should use in their marketing.

Perhaps they won't mention it in their marketing as they copied it from BMW..... :giggle:

And the heated screen from Ford,

And who knows what from other manufacturers.

Not a problem though as they are all good ideas and help make driving safer and easier.
