DIESEL TUNING BOX

Featured Replies

Saw an advert for a DIESEL TUNING BOX at the top of the homepage on the site from TDI-TUNING.CO.UK.

Clicked on to find out more. My Yeti is the CR 170 and the performance upgrade claims to give an extra 43BHP, 58Nm, 4-6 MPG and 10MPH. Price £289.99. Video shows 5mins to fit, no wires to cut and removal without trace.

Anyone tried this type of kit? Last time I investigated such magic it involved open heart ECU surgery and potential DPF issues. The benefits would be very tempting but not if it compromises longevity.... I can't afford to buy another one! Comments please.

A reliable extra 43bhp and 58Nm from one of those little boxes.... Hmm...

For the money I'd rather spend a little more and get a proper remap, they shouldn't hurt the car in anyway but I'd would be worried about the little boxes 'tricking' the ECU into giving more power.

Emperor's New Clothes?

I'm sure this has been discussed here previously?

One of us (JST?) has fitted one and I think is happy with it.

There are many on a certain auction site at much lower prices than quoted, but essentially they just adjust fuelling. As far as I'm aware, there is no way they can advance ignition timing or increase turbo boost.Use the performance and you'll use the fuel - nothing is for nothing!

They've come back into the spotlight because of the latest ECU encryption, since OBD remapping is no longer possible on the latest engines.

always been under the impression these 'plug and play' boxes were best avoided :S If your after proper ECU tuning I think your looking at open heart surgery, depending on the version of ECU fitted. For real advice best speaking with Ben at Shark me thinks

PS if the 170 is to slow try a 110 4x4; be surprised

Regards,

TP

Open heart surgery is the best way to go. I think I came up with that phrase when Ben performed his magic on my car at the beginning of the year.
