Rain - Light Sensor

Featured Replies

Hello there

Is there any way to decrease light sensor sensitivity, because my car auto headlights turn ON too early in evenings when the visibility is not that poor.

Hi Alam

The sensitivity can be altered, but it's another job for someone with VCDS/VAGCOM. It cannot be altered without.

Mike

Hi Mike

I have VCDS, but don't know where to go in it.

You will see a drop down menu- which will have three options

Go one the one which says RLS.

Long coding helper

Hi there

In "central electrics 09" there is a option of "codes" and "adaptation", if I select codes then option of "long coding helper comes". Is that you are talking about? Can you give instructions in details, I have 2011 octavia FL 2.0 TDI.

When you enter coding in central electronics 09 .... You will get a long code and a long coding helper... Look above that there is a drop down menu.

Doesn't matter which model you have ... It's the same for all FL cars.

Had you been worried your lights come on too late fine (as that is dangerous), but to be worried about your lights coming on too soon and thus making you less visible to others?! Weird. But each to their own.

There's no such things as lights coming on too early.

Agree.

In any case, didn't someone post on here that the sensor is actually working on both the absolute level of light and also the contrast? Ie if you drive from sun to dark shade it'll pop the lights on, even though its not actually that dark it is still a good idea to have the lights as its going to make you easier to see in the shadows?

On the vRS is probably less relevant as it has the led DRLs anyway, but I have to agree with the other here, more light, or light more often has to be a good thing.

Hello there

I have checked the "RLS" in "coding07" in "central electrics09" which shows a drop down table with options: "Light Activation Threshold Normal", "Light Activation Threshold 20%", "Light Activation Threshold 40%", "Light Activation Threshold 60%". Currently it is selected on "Light Activation Threshold normal". I don't understand what does it means and how to decrease sensitivity. Please help me out.

On the menu you have the option off 0 - certain ecu number

1- another

2- another

choose one of them before long coding

The correction, I think cause have done before, has to do with type of windshied and its colour.

The original correction is like 247%, do choose one lower only or else the lights won´t come on when you need to have them on.

Another thing, direct sunshine to sensor could also make lights come on cause the sensor goes "blind"

Can others advise me on this? I've not seen my auto lights Off even in bright daylight or direct sunshine at this time of year. The sensor is working, because if I place my hand in front of the mirror, it dims the mirror. Is that the experience of everyone at this time of year, or just a feature of My 56 plate L&K?

Thanks,

Andy

The light sensor pointing backwards on the rim of the interior mirror only dims the mirror. It has nothing to do with the lights apart from when you're driving with very low sun behind you. Then it switches the lights on as this sun causes glare around your car for cars going the other way. All the other light functions are measured by the forward facing sensor above the mirror mounted on the windscreen glass.

I'm quite certain I didn't interfere with the rear facing sensor, and just obscured the forward facing one, and as a consequence, the rear view mirror and the door mirrors dimmed. I had thought it was just a function of the rear facing sensor, but not since I tested it.

It still leaves me pondering why my headlights are always on these days, in the Auto lights setting.
