Columbus satnav traffic re-routing

Featured Replies

I spent some time searching the forum, but couldn't find an answer, so hoping someone might know.

Is it possible to turn off the (seemingly) automatic re-routing that Columbus does to get around potential traffic problems? This is especially an issue on motorways, I find, where the satnav will try to get me to exit several junctions in a row to avoid a traffic problem that in fact doesn't exist.

This is only an irritant and mildly distracting when I'm certain of the route. But when I'm in an unfamiliar area and at its mercy, it's infuriating. Sad to say I have had to get my old TomTom out of the cupboard. It looks ridiculous suctioned there to the windscreen of such a fine car, but it is saving me an awful lot of travel time compared to the Columbus.

Any advice much appreciated.

in route preferences you'd want to turn off "dynamic routing"

You can leave TMC on, no need to switch that off. All you need as the pervious poster has mentioned is disable dynamic routing by setting the option to "off". TMC will still work, and you'll still be able to press the traffic button for the traffic updates, but your nav will not reroute or ask you if you want to reroute.

It's not just the Columbus that gets it wrong!

How many times have I driven along the M1 with signs saying "Queue - caution" only to be confronted with an open road and free flowing traffic?

These false alarms are dangerous as people ignore them - and then hit trouble (Literally) when there really is a queue.

Can't blame the sat-nav, it only picks up signals from a third party, kind of a "don't shoot the messenger" situation :(
