physically cant get over 22.5mpg

Featured Replies

i know i have a abs sensor needing replaced, would this cause such a dramtic mess up to fuel? i got like 50 miles to £20 if that, trip wonr go above 23mpg, even on roads i used to see 60

i also have a bent hub which has been ginding away my brake disk, this is being changed this next week along with abs sensor. hope it resolves this issue

The grinding brake disc is probably causing enough drag to cause that tbh.

Scott the abs sensor does measure the speed of the car so it could cause a mis-reading on the mpg read out, but if you are actually getting that low a mpg it must be something else. A binding brake could rob you of up to 10 mpg but you would smell the brake pads burning (similar to the hub touching the disc)so I can't see it dropping as low as that, so it must be something else boost leak or similar.

just ordered the hub and sensor so here hoping thats all it is, dont think theres a boost leak

You'd probably notice some extra smoke on a boost leak.

Lets hope the new hub and sensor sorts you !

I'd be checking for leaking fuel if mpg got that low. Tandem pump can fail and start leaking diesel (pump on the right side of the engine as you look at it) - maybe a leaky pipe somewhere else?

it was fine before we changed the wheel bearings as as soon as we changed it we know the abs sensor broke upon changing the bearing so im hoping it had to be that

Change out of 2nd gear :giggle:

i wish that was the issue

I can't see how a binding brake can cause a 60%+ drop in fuel consumption though. Even running with 5 PSI in both front tyres doesn't cause a huge drop in consumption. That's why I suspected a fuel leak. Surely you would feel the drag if just one brake was causing so much drag?
