PD150 engines

Featured Replies

Just had a friend looking at buying a 2 litre Diesel Octavia and he pulled out because 170pd engines (2 litre PD type) have Siemens injectors that can and do fail and cause the engine to rapidly die. Do Fabia later models that came in 150pd mode use this brand of injector? Major problem apparently. See the massive Octavia thread for details. Appologies if this has been covered.

Fabia only has PD130, but they and the PD150 use the same Bosch unit pump injectors (obviously four of them)

Some of the early 2 litre engines were PD and used same system of injectors. Piezo (PD170) are different though as common rail and not sure how they work mechanically.

Just one point. People that did my remap a while ago and have mapped diesels for eight to ten years claimed the last Fabias came out in 150 PD mode (apparently to combat the ever increasing power output of other cars) hence the 182 bhp remap was possible on my car. Obviously I an only going by what they said but having said that these rogue injectors do seem a real pain in the 2L PD engines. Pity those people.

Nope, the PD150 only came in the Golf and the Leon. Not the Fabia.

and, just to be facetious, the bora and toledo... :p

May have mapped diesels for a decade but still incorrect about this! :D

The later fabias were still PD130, but they had a BLT engine code and some other stuff to lower emissions / Euro IV crap. STILL a pd130 though. The only PD150s were in Seats and VWs - Engine code ARL. :)

Id be reviewing your choice of mapper to be honest. Do some research and you will find out that all fabia's (vrs) came with the 1.9 PD130 engine. Phone your local skoda dealer :)

have you had yours on an accurate rolling road at 182hp? seems a bit generous for a 130 blower even if you have the 160 intake??

I didn't really mean to go on to mapping but is this totally definitive or is there bit of folklore about these engines? I only had a basic stage 1 remap and to reach 182 bhp does seem a bit too steep an increase - given all these cars came stock at 130 PD. Interestingly the 150 PD does easily map to 180-185 bhp so how come? Isn't it a fairly simple tweak at the engine manufacture end? Could they sneakily (LOL) pushed through some 150PDs towards the end of the production run. I have had this remap for a year and no problems yet and it goes, mid range etc, like the clappers. Everybody close to me very impressed etc.

Interestingly this car was first in the hands of a guy (sounded estern European) not a million miles away from you. It does really go I think a heavy foot on the motorway does make is smoke somewhat but generally it flies without a lot of smoke - if I don't drive like an idiot. I have a relative in Newark so when I go up there I will drive over and see you if you have the time.

The PD150 has a different turbo to the PD130.

Yes it's true that most of the BLT engines when dynoed are pushing out close to 150 as standard, but they're still officially a PD130 engine.

The only difference between the two PD150 and 130 is the turbo, which is why people choose to upgrade to the PD150 turbo - it's designed for more power from the off so you can push it further.

That is interesting - pushing out 150 as standard maybe that's what those people were trying to get accross. I suppose I should be worried out 182 bhp with the basic turbo but no problems yet - touch wood. Perhaps I need to look into it further. I don't need a problem down the line. How much the turbo upgrade then? Is it necessary like the obsession with the PD160 intake?

Pd150's are dogs

Chocolate cam

But the cams are the same as the PD130?

yep, same top ends, but for some reason the PD150s seem to suffer way more often with chocolate cam syndrome than the other PD variants. Very odd.
