gearbox dilema

Featured Replies

My 55 1.8t vrs is on 62k and 1st gear works fine just sounds like a bag of spanners and 2nd gear you can hear the diff whining but iv also had a leak latley iv changed the diff oil seals and still leaking so rather than a rebuild i think i might just change it. What other gearboxes fit? Golf gti? Audi a3? Leon? Do any other boxes fit like 1.6 tdi etc????? Certain years?? My mate has offerd a 6 speed leon cupra r boz but is the conversion hard?? Thanks

6 speed LCR box should fit straight in, but you'll need the LCR drive shafts too.

sticking a diesel box on the pertrol engine unless running big power is a no no for driveability !!!

standard gearbox £150

mmm,

I thought that it needs lots of clutch stuff too?

arent they 2 stage diffs/final drives also?

dont think they are just as simple as slot in.

would love a 6 speed in mine tho, would customise the gears tho.

I was assuming he was getting the box & diff etc ? Not sure about the clutch being different?

When I went from a 5 speed mkiv Golf to the 6 speed Golf Anniversary I was expecting a longer 6th gear, but it wasn't any different to the 5 speed & still did the same rpm @ cruising speeds just seemed to have a shorter 1st & 2nd gears :S

yup that's the thing, the speeds are the same. The good thing with the 02m six speed is they are a lot stronger.

Iirc there was a thread that someone did when they put a 6 speed in. Was years ago tho.

I looked into it a few months back when my clutch gave it the ghost, decieded it was more hassle than it was worth in end as 6th gear crusing ratio wasn't alot differant to mine and nobody does a single mass flywheel conversions unless you have very deep pockets,
