Alloy wheels

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I am new to the Octavia Mk11 part of the forum. I am thinking about buying a 55 model VRS but i am wanting to know more about the tuning options - firstly i was hoping to find some pics of these cars with 19" rims to whet my appetite. On thw Mk1 forum they have the rimfest bit. Is there anything similar on here for the Mk11.

Is there a website with skodas on the continent so i can see what the europeans are up to when it comes to wheels.

Hope to hear back from you soon

Thanks

Lee.

Have a look at the picture thread mate, a few guys running 19's and at least one with 20's. :o

Personally I would go for a remap first.

many thanks for the thread info - some excellent looking MkIIs on there. whilst i am thinking am i likely to run into clearance problems with either 8"x19" or 8.5"x19" ET41 wheels and 20mm lowering springs? are coil overs needed to stop wheels catching the arches, struts etc or is the MKII quite generous in the space under the arches.

has anyone tried some 9"x19" ET41 Bentley Continental wheels? i know a few have been tried on the VW scene but having looked all through the pics on here i have not found any. if not is there any reason why the bentleys are not used other than just personal taste?

I'm on 18 x 8 ET45 at -30mm and there is acres of space.

so based on the above 8"x18" go on no probs with 30 mm drop. does this mean that 9"x19" ET41 with a 20mm drop and 235/35/19 would also be a dead cert to fit either a VRS estate or VRS hatchback? or are there likely to be issues with arch clearance or clearance of the struts?

i am sure there is a possibility of getting these wheels on as some on here run 20"s but i am thinking that i cannot afford masses of work so i need some 19"s which will just go straight on

any info is much appreciated.

unlikely.

stock vrs wheel is et51 and 7.5" wide. that 9" rim at that et would give you 9mm less inner clearance (prob ok) but would protrude 29mm further out. thats a lot and will most likely rub.

Oobster has 19" 8.5 et 45 which although tight, fit fine. ie these have 7mm less inner clearance and protrude an additional 19mm. thats just about the limit before you get to rubbing.

perfect size and offset IMO would be 8x19 et 45, so inner clearance the same, and protrudes only another 12mm over stock. you should be able to go for a good drop with that too.

many thanks for the reply. you could have saved me a small fortune. strange that the bentleys wont fit the octy but yet seem ok on a VW caddy van. that said i do not know how much under arch modification and arch rolling etc had to be done to make them fit. also once on you have to think practicality vs looks. i need to have the car as a daily driver so if the mods would prevent this i will have to re-think.

thanks again

Lee.

The above figures are correct, however a 9" wide rim with a 235 tyre will have quite a stretch on them, this is usually how they get away with wider rims, the rim protrudes from the arch but the tyre sidewall has just enough clearance, personally it's not a look that I like, others do though - and Bentley rims do look nice!

Cheers for the info. With regards to Oobster you know what tyre size he is running, how much lower than standard the car is and whether coil overs are a necessity to run 8.5" x 19" ET45s.

Oobster if you are reading this please feel free to chip in.

Are there any differences in wheel size which will fit an estate and not the hatch and vice versa? or will they both take an 8.5" x 19" ET45s

Thanks

I had 18s and a lowering kit on my MK1 octy... Never again, our roads just aint good enough, spent most of my time avoiding potholes...

IIRC the tyres Oobster has are 235/35 and he's down around 30mm or so on weitec coils, same as I have on my car. 225/35 would also fit and give you slightly more room but with a shallower tyre the ride might be worse.

Not sure I understand your question about coilovers - you don't *need* coilovers to run those wheels, but if you fit them on a stock riding car they'll probably make the arch gap look worse than the standard rims.

Those wheels should also be fine on an estate. Checkout the VRM pics on flickr - there are several estates running 8.5 x19 et45 rims of various types.

Edited to add: if you stick to OE type width and offset then you can go pretty low without any rubbing - i've had my car down at 45-50mm below stock and had no rub.

sorry it was my misunderstanding about coil overs, i thought they narrower diameter than a std strut and spring set up, meaning that you could have a wheel which extended further inwards towards the suspension before the wheel tyre started to foul the suspension. as this appears not to be the case i assume that the main purpose / benefit to coil overs is to enable you to set the ride height of the car exactly as you want.

whilst i am asking about coil overs is there such a thing as a good budget set up or is it that cheap is cr*p. also to show my ignorance - how do you know that all the corners of the car are at the same height or that the left of the car is at the same height as the right? is it a case of just counting threads?

as i have never had a set of coil overs all this is totally new to me.

Cheers

Lee.

you may want to start a new thread then, so more people pick it up.. i have weitecs which seem to be pretty good, several on here have APs and a at least one has vmaxx and another KW - yes, you generally get what you pay for (higher price normally means better quality materials, stainless etc) lots of info on this forum if you use the search.
