vRs suspension upgrade question

Featured Replies

Hi

Looking to improve my suspension setup from the standard set up and looking for some help.

Looking for a better ride/handling set up, avoiding anything extreme

Not excessive drop 25mm or so

Will just lowering springs work with standard shocks or will they wear faster ... if so which springs are best.

If going for shocks and springs which would be the best set up for ride/handling.

Have read that the rear is much higher than the front end, with shocks and springs, how do you get round this ?

A lot of conflicting info about coilovers, regarding setting up the car against shocks and springs set up.. any thoughts.

Any help appreciated from members or traders, ideally from first hand experience.

If anyone is selling a reccommended set up, please drop me a line too

Thanks in advance

Assuming I get my kws I will be selling my eibach springs fairly soon. If you're interested let me know via pm.

Lowering springs will certainly make it feel tauter. Too low restricts movement too much IMO and ride will suffer too much.

Be aware that lower springs without a damper upgrade will ultimately be slower on rougher or bouncier road surfaces.

I have Eibach springs and dampers. If I was doing it now, I think I would probably end up with a decent set of coilovers.

If not doing it yourself, labour could be the deciding factor. Could easily add another £150-£200 to the job.

KW Variant 3

I would get a mid range kit (dampers and springs) like Weitec or even less are AP if I was going to do change mine, stay away from coilies if you dont want something too extreme - however they are easier to fit if doing yourself (no messing around with spring compressors)

Koni were a nightmare trying to get supplied with their strt kit at end of last year (things may have improved? and they get good reports) and fsd will raise your front end!

I have koni sports fitted and its a lot of faffing around to adjust the damping to find out whats right for you.

keep the ride comfort and just fit a Rarb.

i was simply shocked by the difference the whiteline Rarb made to an otherwise standard fabia 1.4 16v. the car is exactly how i wanted it for my girlfriend.

same ride height and comfort just much much more comnposed on in the bends and the extra front end grip is very decent.

Also consider going up a profile on the tyres (if running standard) for a less 'crashy', more grown up feel.

What is it your looking to improve?

Looking to improve the ride.

I have a whiteline rarb which is not yet fitted, and

the top mounts on my car need replacing.

I find the ride is not composed... even crashy, happy to lower slightly,

as standard height is quite high, as long as there is a big benfit from the springs.

Just looking to improve on standard without the back end looking too high.

Looking for reccommended suggestions from anyone happy with their set up

Thanks for the replies so far

I fitted the KW shocks and spring set from DPM. Amazing difference. The ride is much improved and gives a firm ride but not harsh at all. Still very comfortable. Lowered by 20mm so no loss of practicality

Hi

THanks for the info

Any other reccommendations for shocks/springs combinations ?

Thanks

Just fitted whiteline rarb on middle setting. The handling change is like night and day. Going to leave it like this till feb/march then I'll put it on hardest setting. Finger crossed it will feel more like what I was used to with previous car

It all depend on amount of a drop. More drop = more handling & less comfort. Since you have certain mods in plans maybe do what you got and set 4 wheel alignment and see how it feels. Sometimes tweaking setup can change the way it feels. You really need to set your mind on want you want and then use good brand to get results. I dont think it will make a huge difference between H&R, Eibach or other. The emount of drop will - thats the only mayor factor.

I have Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks on my MX5.

Got to say I'm over the moon with them.

On the Fabia I have a Vogtland matched spring and shock set.

Good for the money but nowhere near as good as the MX5

The difference between the 2 is night and day.

I'll be changing the set up on the Fabia to match the MX5

when funds allow.

A lot is down to budget, generally the more money you spend the better quality kit your going to get.

IMO it shouldn't be too crashy on standard suspension. Maybe your dampers are already past their best?

Also IMO, mine lowered on -25mm Eibachs feels a lot more "controlled" than on standard suspension. Now, there feels like there's a limit to the lean, whereas before it felt like falling over.

Softer tyres?

I found my Michelin alpin's to be more comfortable than my Pirelli p Zero's.
