Feeler thread for modded v8 maps with speed cameras&otherPOI

Featured Replies

Hi all, over the last few months I spent a lot of time trying to get Speed Cameras and other POI onto my maps, firstly 7, then 7.2 and now 8. Obviously you need a legit maps disc in the first place. How can I help out others? I have a sub for the latest speed camera database, also POIs for Bakers, Shell garage, fish and chips, Beefeaters, Harvesters, McD's, BK, all the DIY stores like B&Q and Screwfix plus other oddities like Freeview transmitter sites and independant cinemas. I can supply them on disc, just insert and away you go.

Maybe members send to send a photo of there disc or something? Ideas??????

Sounds interesting

Sounds great, a big feature missing from the Colombus.

I have the latest maps on my 2011 vRS, not sure what version but 6 letter postcode and lots of POI. However it would be great to have the speed camera locations.

I have a few questions/

I presume they are locations & no warnings are given?

You say insert disc and thats it, any issues with updating known about? I dont want to brick the unit,

How much do you think you will want for it?

Lastly, mine is a legit version but I dont have the original disc, and never have!

Hi, there is no chance of bricking as you are not changing the firmware. The chances are you have 7.2, 8 was only released a few months ago. You don't get warnings, only a little logo on the map. You can choose to "run" from the disc or if your happy, select Copy and it will overwrite your maps with the modded version. I have 7.2 with speed cameras from a month ago and the v8 was done yesterday. I would say around a tenna but I need to work out cost per disc and other things. Depends on the interest level.

Thanks for that, I would deffo be interested.

Out of interest where did the speed camera database come from / how accurate etc

Its from undergroundgps and is accurate and up to date.

Cheers for that, when can I get it! PM me if you want.

Whilst I understand that this in theory is a great idea for everyone, Briskoda cannot promote or be part of this activity as its on highly dodgy ground. Just the mention of gpsunderground where they are known to be part of the pirate scene, and therefore assume that the camera data is stolen from another source.

If you have the latest firmware on your columbus and have V7.1 maps or newer, its dead easy to add the POis without the need to burn new DVDs, simply create a peronalpoi.db3 file with POInspect0r and import into your columbus using the Personal POI import function, the whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
