Judder at idle when warm

Featured Replies

I have owned a 52 reg Fabia 1.4mpi 8v for just over 12 months. The car has had a judder at idle since I bought it. I had a full service done just after buying it thinking that a new set of plugs might solve the problem but it didn't. A couple of weeks later the EML came on, diagnostics showed coolant temp sensor fault so replaced that, light cleared but still running rough. Have lived with it until recently when it seemed to get slightly worse but no EML came on, diagnostics showed misfire so replaced coil pack & while in there cleaned out throttle body. The car is now fine at idle when cold but once it warms up the judder kicks in again. Otherwise it's a great little car. Any ideas what to do next please?

A slight judder at idle is normal for the 1.4mpi. Something to do with the idle being kept close to stalling in order to meet EU emissions legislation for the time. So long as there's no error codes on there and it otherwise runs ok, there's nothing to worry about.

Something to bear in mind though is it is common for the thermostat to break internally. If your car takes a while to warm up there's a good chance the thermostat and housing needs renewing also. The way to check for certain is to remove the temp sender when all stone cold, put your finger inside and if you can move the metal thermostat it needs sorting.

Thanks for the advice. Will ask my garage to have a look at the thermostat next time its in there.

I know nothing about these or if they even have one....

But by TDI did this and it was a faulty EGR valve.

There is no EGR valve on the 1.4mpi (although most modern cars do have them). Internal gasses are vented back to the intake via the hoses near the oil filler.
