swing arm bushes perhaps....

Featured Replies

hi, ive noticed recently that my cars rear end seems to be a bit twitchy on some road surfaces, ( a bit like if u were to wiggle your arse in the seat while driving). also when the fuel gets lower & the weight de-creases it does the same, i had a look at the bushes in the swing arm & couldnt really see too much, im not sure if the shocks could be getting a bit tired or its the bush, has anybody had any similar symptoms & if so what was the cure, thanks in advance, lee

Could be worn rear anti roll bar bushes or shocks. The beam bar bushes usually start to bang when going over bumps when they're worn so it probably isn't those causing the problem.

What age is the car?

2WD or 4WD?

Shocks on mine were absolutely, completely shagged when I bought it at 49,000 miles. I suspect the last 20,000 miles had been done purely towing a caravan though, since the previous owner had a large one on his driveway, several other cars (none with towbars) and the vRS only doing 3,000 or so a year in his ownership.

hi, its a 2WD & a 2000 car. its probably on the original shocks, i'll take them off to see what condition there in. i'll check the movement & go from there, thanks for replying, lee

If its a 2000 car then unless they have been changed it has the early type rear axle bushes with the metal outer sleeve, they will more than likely be shafted.
