Boot lock problem

Featured Replies

I have a 2003 Skoda Fabia 1.2 Estate - and I can only open the boot using the lever by the drivers door. It won't open by using the latch on the boot door itself.

Two questions on this -- firstly, will it still pass an MOT like this? I'm struggling to find a conclusive answer.

Secondly, any ideas on how easy it might be to repair?

if your rear wiper no longer squirts water, its usually disconnected there, its leaks over the solder points of the switch which operate the rear trunk handle. I had to take off all the trim and resolder it...its usually corroded by water. While your there check all the washer piping connections to make sure there isn't a break elsewhere - mine was disconnected in three places.

Not an MOT fail at all. In fact the classic models are only openable by the lever at the driver's seat.

Does your interior light come on when the driver's door is opened?

Thinking on it mine doesnt and the boot switch plays...and the washer has just stopped working, presume they are linked then, just thought mine was a faulty light switch and popped hose :S

I understand the car's ECU looks to see a door has been opened before the boot can be opened by the latch. Try opening one of the other doors, then opening the boot. The switch inside the door that tells the car the door has opened (which brings the light on) can fail.

Welcome to this forum.

I thought the boot interlock was only for when you're driving along - so that people can't open the boot while you're temporarily stopped. Getting out and opening the boot thus releases the interlock. This wouldn't be the case if you were just approaching the car in your drive.

There's no issue with the MOT since the back door can still be opened. My brother's MX-5 only failed its MOT since the boot was locked and they couldn't thus check the spare wheel (which of course wouldn't have been a fail if the spare wheel wasn't in there!).

Assuming your model is supposed to be able to be opened with the latch (Noting the "Classic" comment above - which trim level is it?) then a faulty switch in the handle might be the reason - or a broken wire/corroded connection somewhere.
