2X6 pin or 8 pin?

Featured Replies

Looking at X-car Link iPod adaptors for my car. They seem to offer everything I want from an adaptor. But I'm given two options and dunno which is suitable, 2X6 pin or 8 pin. Here's what the adaptors look like:

My head unit is the RNS DX, like this:

I'd rather not resort to removing the whole unit to look, just to do it again in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know which one I'll require?

Thanks.

considering you have a rare radio unit id be checking the back if i were you. As no-one else has one then i wouldnt take anyones word for it!

They are rare on a fabia, but not on octavia`s, golf`s and every other vag car of that era. Octavia secions might be more useful if you cant find much on it.

8pin (Blue plug), But you'll lose the multichanger, Which will be rendered obsolete anyway!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Awesome thanks for that mate, appreciated. 8 pin it is. You absolutely sure? (don't mean to doubt, just don't wanna buy the wrong one!)

The x-car-link device comes with an ISO input also, so you can use both changer and iPod! B) It's the reason why I'm going for this particular one. Not sure how you switch between the two exactly though

The blue plug (Bosch type) replaces the multichanger plug, A common fitment on all VAG cars.

I've got a picture of the back of my Symphony if you need it!, The pinout arrangement is similar (All bar the GPS connections)

Yeah, the 8pin is the right one and you keep the changer (it's got a pass through for the old ISO block to the changer to attach to). Switching between the two using the Symphony is a bit of an arse. But I think it's easier with your Unit due to the different buttons.

It's very tight to fit it in the back of the HU space with the normal Symphony in, so I'm not sure what space you'll have behind yours so prepare for a few headaches if you have big hands.
