3 turbos gone bang

Featured Replies

Would any decent, half witted mechanic not realise if the compressor wheel wasn't on the turbo, then it's obviously gone AWOL within the rest of the system.

I mean really, you took it back AGAIN after the 2nd failure? madness.

Rather than pay mates rates, which will now have resulted in a lot more cost, a good priced indy would, and should've been a better choice !

Omg your mechanic sounds like a right onion!

 Great term

  • 2 years later...

did you find the problem for this, I have gone through 2 turbo's already, beginning to think its the turbo oil feed pipes.

Turbo oil feed should be changed as matter of course

As above, for the sake of a few quid that should be changed with the turbo

Found the problem to be the person who Owned the car before had be using the wrong oil and it had blocked up somewhere before the oil pick as we changed the oil pick up every time with the turbo. The engine at to have a full strip down and was sent off to be cleaned

That's insulting. To onions :D

Sadly if the oil they used isn't Suitable for use in a PD I suspect you'll have other issues sooner rather than later :(

Yea I noticed it had been resurrected but couldn't help but laugh at the onion comment :D

Interesting that you've not had any issues, a fair few taxi's round this way used the same garage who didn't use the correct PD oil and at least 3 of them that I know had cam wear issues, granted taxi's have a hard life and rack up the miles/spend a lot of time at idle but that was enough to make me insist on Quantum from TPS.

Indeed.

Maybe thats why my car ( which I will admit half of the servicing probably done myself, the other half at Skoda or indies) is still going strong (touch wood) despite going North of 112K miles and only ever had Quantum in it, rather than whatever rubbish qwickshat et al use. Same turbo from new too.

Hence its the lead in the pencil, not who put it there that counts.

Actually my petrol motorcycle has barely done 20K and about the same age but I tell you what my Skoda is smoother on idle and driving about!

I can't help but despair of these stories of badly serviced cars, I mean for christsakes the Quantum is less than £40 and the oil filter ain't much. I'll bet whichever muppet paid for the servicing probably paid £100, or more for the liberty of getting their car shafted.

And people wonder why some like to service their own vehicles.

If it's looked after 120k+ miles is nothing on a PD.

One of mine is on 183k and drives really well.

Garages buy a big barrell of oil and bang it into every car.

So i doubt half of them even know what 505.01 means
