Suspension Options

Featured Replies

I'm currently running supersport 55m springs with standard shocks and ride is well...terrible. Dont get me wrong it goes round corners very well but the smallest of bumps in the road throw the furby off course and I'm constantly bouncing all over the place. The mechanic who done my MOT asked me how my teeth hadnt fallen out yet.

I've decided to get a set of coilovers but not sure which option to go for, I've heard good things about JOM coilovers but dont want to fit them and find out they're just as bouncy. The only other option I would consider is KW V1's which are over double the price - are they really twice as good?

I could really do with saving the £200 and put it towards fitting but I don't want to get the JOM coilovers and find out I need to replace them in 6 months.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is a chance that your standard shocks are gone. 55mm drop for standard shockers that is quite a pressure on them. If you say they counce a lot that might proove the problem. As far as option - you need to concider your needs. Need for handling or need for comfort. If you want comfort - then raise your setup as when droped your driving comfort is gone for good. If you want handling - cant go wrong with coils. I dont know JOM but one thing you need to be carefull. Some coils are crap on materials used. Best way is to buy coil kit when you get pre-set dampers with coils but that cost more then a penny. If you on a budget look for decend sport dampers and use set of springs you have as long they are still in good condition.

I've also heard good things about JOM

also look at AP coilovers and WEITEC coilovers

I can't comment on other brands, but can confirm KW's are nice and comfortable, nice drop, not a harsh ride at all.

Prior to this, i've never changed my suspension and had plenty of people telling me not to do it as would be to harsh a ride etc, but i can honestly say that it is not

if or when i have to replace my suspension, i would go KW again for sure

Kw v1's are class!

Kw make AP so id get a set of them! They'll be superior to the JOM's

As with most things you get what you pay for but if your on a budget then the JOM kit is one of the best options and very popular.

If budget allows then something like the Weitec or KW will be a better option but they are a lot more.

So is the general consensus that the KW's are really twice as good as the JOM's?

Out of interest what actually makes one coilover kit better than another? Is it just the material used?

Materials used, build quality and ride quality.

I have heard Jom are fine for the fabia and at £180 delivered you cant complain.

I had Jom on my mk2 golf and they were perfect :)

Yeah for the money they're excellent value.
