Just done the climatronic mode, 1 min job :-)

Featured Replies

Just had a look at octaviavrs.com and found a mod to switch off the climatronic without having to mess about turning the wee wheel.

I know most of you guys will have either done this or heard of it, I had no idea it existed, anyway, took out the top centre blank button on the climatronic, removed a tiny plastic tab and put the button back in.....Bobs yer Uncle, it now works as an on/off switch.

My first free mod, and even better I didn't break anything :giggle:

I'm now wondering if I should get a hold of a VW/Audi button with the the "off" marked on it to see if changing the button will give me a properly lit one?

NICE ONE

It's always bothered me that I had to wind the wheel down to turn the climatronic off and I for one wasn't aware of this, what a smashing mod!

Pagey's page mentions that "The VW button is also illuminated with the word off but unfortunately these buttons are not available seperately." Sadly, even if you find a button, it won't illuminate (at least not on my '57 Elegance) as there's no light source behind the button, nor the one below.

The button one below.....

I think that was for an auxillary heater, does anyone know where the switch goes back to? An empty fuse maybe? Could this be used for something interesting perchance? I seem to recall someone asking about switches that would fit beside where the ASR switch is, maybe this it a quick way to solve that problem.

Just remembered we've got a VW Passat on hire at the moment. I wonder if they'll notice the word "Off" missing from the console when it's returned...... :giggle: :giggle:

??????

Nice tip, like it.

Just done mine, cheers for that OP. The extra button would come in handy, wouldn't mind seeing where it goes to as I would like to have a switch for my glove box cigarette lighter

It's either the webasto heater or 'dual' for turning off dual zone, depending on equipment fitted. It doesn't go back to an empty fuse, it goes into the HVAC module and from there controls stuff via CAN BUS.

Glad this has been of use to some of you ;)

Am I right in thinking that the FL has an off button so this mod would be necessary?

Iirc the FL has the newer style climatronic fitted in the mk6 Golf.

My bad. Sorry.

Never drink and type!

No worries......

Such an easy mod. I'm surprised Skoda doesn't make it an active button by default even if they didn't illuminate the off switch, sure it would be cheaper to produce without the plastic tab

Did mine a year ago when i got my Sport

The thing is, if Skoda did do things like this and other cheap or free mods they would probably put the price of the car up, besides, isn't it more fun doing it yourself?

Samuir 1974, had the VW one fitted to his, looked classy, cant remember if it was lit or not , thought everyone knew about this, never did it myself as I have never turned off

+1

Sorted mine this morning in a bored 5 minute wait for the level crossing to finally clear..

I don't actually ever turn mine off to be fair, just leave it in 'Auto/Econ' mode most of the time, but as it's so nice & simple to do, why not? :D

Did the mod somewhere in 2007 and got hold of a Golf V unit after that.

The button can be lit, but therefor you will have to put a LED in.
