tyre size conflict

Fuel filler flap for Scout PD140 says - 225 50 R17

Tyre companies , searching using the number plate and showing Scout PD140 - 225 45 R17

Can both or either size(s) be used ?

I think the number plate search is a bit hit and miss to be honest, I'd go with what it says on the Filler cap or in the Handbook. Even the Skoda web site has the correct wheel/tyre size.

Some number plate search sites thinks my Octavia Vrs is on 17'' wheels.

Strangely enough I think the 225 45 r17 is the standard tyre size for the Scout in other parts of the world. I have come accross this before for mine and I also think this would fit in better circumference wise with all the other Octy wheel and tyre sizes, particularly the recommended winters (205/55/16)

In Europe it's 225/50/17 for Scout, I have those.

+1 for 225/50R17

Why dont you look at your current tyres? I doubt someone made a affort to change all 4 to wrong size? If you change wheel sizes then use http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to calc size and differences between old and new size.

I'm sure there was a thread on this some years ago.

It was much simplier to use & faster, anybody know where this is?

Thanks for all the advice guys .

Think I will stick with the fuel cap flap .

Unfortunately there is appears to be a 25% difference in the average tyre cost for this size as opposed to the 225 45 R17 !

Merry Xmas
