LOTS of research and a good understanding how the engine works.

It's probably a good idea to get a good understanding how you define maps before you jump in the deep end.

I got winOLS it seems really good and simple by being straight forward

If you find it simple, then you ready to go! and you'll find FabokaVRS knows his stuff too ;) so take note of any advice he dishes out.

Some nice work there Faboka!

I've just spent a while with VAG-COM logging all this sort of stuff on my Ibiza FR TDI. It blew a turbo which I had to replace and I had suspected it had been remapped by a previous owner. Looks like it has been, and badly with the injected quantity limits both set to 70 at 3000rpm WOT! Boost also peaks at just under 3bar ....

As you can imagine it smokes like a bitch!

Anyway, I don't suppose you (or anyone else out there) has a standard factory map for the 038 906 019 NF ECU I can use with Galletto?

I was thinking some people must have the ones they saved from their ECUs before they put a remap on?

Cheers,

Bob

What are you using for checksum calculation? I was lucky enough that the two vehicles I cut my remapping teeth on didn't run checksums.

I'll take a look to see if I've got one.

Cool. :)

Sorry to bump an old thread but decided to pick myself up both the KWP and Galletto cables to add to my current collection!

I've got a Fabia RS that just recently blew a turbo don't think it had anything to do with the remap it has on it to be honest as it was on the car for 20k on the previous owner

I've fitted a PD150 Garrett turbo and plan on getting it professionally done just not for awhile while i work up the rest of the mods! But for piece of mind i would like to flash it back to original or even flash the original PD150/PD160 maps onto it!

If anyone has the original map saved could they pm or email it to us it would be much appreciated!

PM'd. I've got loads of original files.

I wouldn't advise flashing a different file onto your ecu due to different hardware/software versions.

Are you still doing maps faboka?

  • Author

Sure am. Been learning the edc16 ecu. Works similar to the edc15.

Cool, I'll send you a pm :)

Edc16 works of nm of torque rather then mg of fuel quanaty if I'm correct??

  • Author

You are correct. :)

This is really good work.

I could be getting ahead of myself here but ..... just supposing hear me out.

This is very interesting development and great work Faboka. It would be inevitably very exciting if standard remaps (as a result of copies of existing maps people were carrying) became more of a public domain ownsership, you have a cable, you can remap.

That is the way it went with Triumph Sagem ECU and a public domain software for remapping called TuneECU - previously it was tuneboy that took centrestage as a paid product that allowed remapping. I've never come across anything similar in the car community esp. VW

I think the idea behind TuneECU is donation based, so many people do actually donate as a result of their happy results from using it. Maybe you could do something similar? I'm sure those behind remapping won't be too happy about this but that is their opinion to be voiced and I'm sure they still offer a service and guarantees that someone playing with alternative remaps can't access.

Plus alot of the stuff I've seen I wouldn't want to pass on if you catch my drift.

If you have a interface (cable) nothing stopping you buying the files of people anyway. It's what a lot of companies do anyway.

faboka (John?), I remember when you first started talking about doing this and I was one (of many) people to say you were wasting your time, just pay someone else to do it etc etc.

I take it all back, you clearly have you're head screwed on and I expect it's hugely satisfying putting the time and effort in and seeing the rewards, especially on your own car! Fair play

Forgive my Ignorance..........

What's the difference?

  • Author

Thanks Matt. A lot of people hear ecu/computer and claim its the devils work lol. But like everything else once you put the effort in it pays off.

Bosch edc15 is 512kb of hex. Edc16 is 1Mb to 2Mb of hex :)

This is on my to do list (and has been for a while) but need to get other mods on the car done first. But we shall meet soon! Hopefully lol
