My DIY remap project

Featured Replies

Edc16 works of nm of torque rather then mg of fuel quanaty if I'm correct??

Correct, but the only difference between the two is the BSFC map which equates injection volumes to torque.  The BSFC map is your engines efficiency map and can actually be pulled from the stock map file.

This is really good work.

I could be getting ahead of myself here but ..... just supposing hear me out.

This is very interesting development and great work Faboka. It would be inevitably very exciting if standard remaps (as a result of copies of existing maps people were carrying) became more of a public domain ownsership, you have a cable, you can remap.

That is the way it went with Triumph Sagem ECU and a public domain software for remapping called TuneECU - previously it was tuneboy that took centrestage as a paid product that allowed remapping. I've never come across anything similar in the car community esp. VW

I think the idea behind TuneECU is donation based, so many people do actually donate as a result of their happy results from using it. Maybe you could do something similar? I'm sure those behind remapping won't be too happy about this but that is their opinion to be voiced and I'm sure they still offer a service and guarantees that someone playing with alternative remaps can't access.

Apart from the map locations (which aren't owned by any tuner) and specific cells to switch EGR etc (which again aren't owned by any tuner) there are no secrets to tuning.  It is simply torque management across the RPM and load range.

The average remap is simply altering torque limiters, injection timing and smoke maps.  The average map is something you don't want to copy, there is a lot of smokey rubbish out there.

Thanks Matt. A lot of people hear ecu/computer and claim its the devils work lol. But like everything else once you put the effort in it pays off.

Bosch edc15 is 512kb of hex. Edc16 is 1Mb to 2Mb of hex :)

also john quick bit of adcive im asking for if the n75 is out would that stop my car holding boost because my duty cycle only goes to 65%

on my rollers the other day i got 270ft/lb and 140hp was verry smokey as if it wasnt boosting fully but on road the car drives well and does not emit alot of smoke

If you have a interface (cable) nothing stopping you buying the files of people anyway. It's what a lot of companies do anyway.

Its not so much about directly copying specific tuners maps per se, as the possibility of making tunability more open source?

I'm sporting a custom map on my Triumph, it was easy and free using TuneECU.

It didn't come from a tuning third party either, as I understand its Triumph's own sports exhaust map, and I only applied it because it came into the public domain. However there are also dozens of custom maps that people have chosen to share which people could use at their own risk.

http://www.tomhamburg.net/Custom_Tune_list.html

Then again the m/c tuning seems to be a lot more "progressive" and less backwards / closed door compared to car tuning ? I wonder why that is ?

I can "map" my Triumph using just a bogstandard KKL 409.1 cable (which also works for the car too!)

I haven't bothered with my vRS to date (its a BLT and seems surprisingly quick standard anyway haven't had it dyno'd though).  Its getting a bit long in the tooth / higher miles and the longer I can run it the better, I expect to replace it at some point when necessary

So mapping certainly isn't my priority for the car - I expect there are at least a proportion who feel the same way

If mapping for the car became more public domain (and I'm talking about the mapping not the actual use of others maps) I would celebrate that - it may mean sharing of maps which in fact aren't tuner specific (e.g. tweaked by guys like you happy to share them), and enthusiasts might determine those good and bad maps (not companies)

Tuner pro it's free so go play with that. Remapping has changed a lot in the last 100 years with ecu containing 100+ maps instead of 8maps.

All the information I've posted here is enough to get anyone started. Like already mentioned TunerPro is a free piece of software however i never got my head round it. Theirs also another open source application that holds your hand however its been proven many times that its only as good as the person using it.

In fact do the pictures still work? If not I'll need to relink them. Also need to do a brief overview of the edc16 at some point.

Totally agree. Some of the the maps I've seen is shocking and I'm not talking about small companies either. Problem is the end user will never know. :(

Have you logged group 11 using WOT from 2k to redline that I can see?

Yup theirs 10 maps for timing (start of injection) alone and that's not including timing limiters.

EDC16 theirs even more. Siemens PPD's from my brief look at theirs **** loads lol

Re linked the images and placed links on the first post.

How does using edc16 effect the end results?

And how do they differ from edc15?

  • Author

It doesn't change the end result. Just more modern ecu. Was introduced in the gold mkv, octy mk2. Then replaced again with edc17 (just opened a map up this evening to have a look)

Plus you also have the change to common rail so their will be maps to reflect this.

Example of difference between edc15 and 16. Edc15 has 1 drivers wish, edc16 can have 8. Also got the introduction of lambda smoke maps.

Totally agree. Some of the the maps I've seen is shocking and I'm not talking about small companies either. Problem is the end user will never know. :(

Yes with a DPF they won't know until the regen's start getting out of hand.

I have got one but ill get another and post it on here for you to see

I have adjusted my actuator by a turn but now I'm getting large boost spikes so ill turn it back then ill try and get a log done tonight

Hi,

It is a very difficult thing to learn especially reading the tables of data and deciding which table performs what task -  not impossible though once you have got the hang of it - it takes a logical brain to pick through all the tables.

Jason alias devonutopia uses a guy that a member of tdisport for his maps and he can't be all bad having re-calibrated an ecu that had different hardware such as injectors and a 2560v hybrid turbo.

Ideally when changing injectors to still keep the duration maps in calibration a wide band 02 sensor is handy. :)

Dual maps now working :)

By copying the manual data block and overwriting the auto data block then altering the soft coding. I can now switch between the two maps using VCDS. So you could have stock and mapped, clutch friendly and max torque and so on.

Assume that this is switching between block 2 and block 5 data in the maps. Is anyone able to advise how this is done.

Use vcds to switch between 102 and 105.

i use to use a hex editor to code the data within the file dump.
