internet won't load up after system re store

Featured Replies

I have the full avg mate with the tune up tool on it. Where gettin somewhere.... I just started it in safe mode, started it in last known config that worked, then it flashed up, updates available, downloaded the up dates now I can get web pages to load up! Facebook, hot mail everything, just can't fill in any boxes to actually use them? Lol this lap top has a mind of its own! LOl

Excellent. Now download Firefox and install that. Import all your bookmarks etc. You should now have a fully functioning system.

Perhaps remove Internet Explorer and then download and re-install the current version. You can always re-import the bookmarks from Firefox etc. But as said - most prefer Firefox anyway (apart from the endless updates you seem to get! :( )

Hurrah! Now when you are sure that everything is running as it should and you have all your updates then:

1/ Backup all you content (images/personal files etc) onto an external HDD

2/ Create a new Restore Point.

Well done. bet you feel really good now as well :)

Yeah its always good when ya fix somethin yourself

Right this is where its at now. Managed to get explorer to open, god knows how. It comes up with the dell start up page but I can't get any other page on. It has got better though and it trys to open another page but then nothin happens.

I expect this is a pre-fetch page which is already stored on your HD , and is available without connecting to the web.

Glad its fixed. Change the home page on ie from the dell one to google or something.

Tools>internet options> then use current

I only ever use ie to connect to windows update, everything else I use firefox for.

modified : Oh, I see you've already fixed it. Doh! these posts are like reading through time lapses :-)

At least the PC is fixed now

If everything is coming up with a blank page Mike, you might just need to re-register Java

Run this comand from a command prompt,

regsvr32 jscript.dll

then type this

regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Reboot and see how that is, I had the same issue after a restore to multiple points, once. It seems to unregister the JAVA files themselves, although Java still thinks its installed
