Need to be 16's or bigger to fit over front calipers,

get some winter tyres for your spiders and get tyres swopped over

Plenty of clearance with 16" steels ;)

God, I've just sold a pair of 16" wheels that would have fitted your octy. Which part of Devon are you from, and do you think we will really need winters down here? I am sticking to all-seasons and adapting my driving instead.

Does depend on where you are. South East Devon is well protected from the worst of the weather by Dartmoor.

I spend most of my on roads like the A386 (Okey and up), and winter tyres come into their own. Winters cope with mud and standing water way way better than summers. So even if the temp doesn't drop below freezing this winter, they're still light-years better.

ps

OP Welcome to the forum

Loads..... :o

16" alloys go over the 312mm callipers, so 16" steels should too.

That looks about the same amount of clearence my old corsa used to have on front with cavalier SRi front brakes on it

Yeah it isn't too bad really, the angle of the photo makes it look closer than it really is.

The look is actually starting to grow on me :p

I hate all this winter wheels talk because I don't have a spare £400 for the tyres :(

Mind you, I won't need them much in London. I'll only need them at Christmas when I visit my mum in Shropshire. The Octy coped on Kumhos last year in the snow so the Superb should be fine with the Contis

True. Dad lives on the northern of Dartmoor NP just outside Okehampton and I can tell the difference in climate if I visit there. :)

BMW dealers will supply the winter season steering wheel set for regarding £600-£700. They're specced for the 320 and so on and are 16" steel along with winter tyres. Similar can be bought a touch less expensive privately from here (or for a bit more specced with metals) Car Tyres, Truck as well as Metal TiresWinters will be better in snow/ice and when you get really cold/wet roads so are worth the investment if you have the money imho. They'll also last longer and be a smaller amount hassle than snow socks should you match all of them from The fall of 'ish' in order to 03 'ish' (temperature reliant).

Having said that I'm not disturbing together this year for that C220 as I don't feel I'd get enough make use of out of them to warrant the expense or even the hassle changing/storing. This year is certainly not such as the last two winters therefore I am pleased to stick with the actual 'summer' tyres and just park the car in the odd few days should we ever get snow/ice like last year. I'll have an additional look the coming year.

Errrr that kind of makes sense, but BMW ???

@OP

I just bought cheap ass 17" snow tyres and chucked them on my OE alloys, though I do have two sets of OE alloys mind

£283 fitted for 4 tyres, great in the cold but little squirmy over 12c but hey as long as they work in snow who cares, I can't afford to be stuck in 'if we get snow here in sunny Cardiff,

as I looking at a £5k a week down the tube this year, so even if I get a week out them they are worth it for me

You're not the first to say that ;)

I'm not a fan of non-OEM wheel trims and the only 16" Skoda ones I could find were those from the Superb and IMO they didn't look good at all. Therefore I'm running with the naked steels until the sun returns :p

Our other car (Grande Punto) has got a set of wheel trims though as they are far less offensive and actually look like alloys from half a mile away if you squint a bit :p
