Squeaky engine/gearbox mount??

Featured Replies

Have had a squeaking type of noise (like a rubbing noise) for a couple of months now.

It appears when the engine is rocked back i.e. changing gear or on/off "throttle" movements.

The dealer has checked the exhaust, heatshield & any loose engine mounts, but can't find anything.

I checked myself & physically rocked the engine back & forth. The noise seems to be coming from around the gearbox area underneath the battery & airbox.

I suspect that something is rubbing in or around the gearbox mount.

Wondered if anybody has had similar problems?

Yep - Exactly the same on SWMBO's.

I can't find it either but it sure does bug me. Been back to the dealer and the best suggestion was the flexi on the front pipes of the exhaust.

At first, I could live with it, but it's becoming annoying now!

I took the engine cover off when I rocked the engine & the noise was louder around the gearbox area.

I think it'll have to go back to the dealer for a thorough check.

I've been having the same problem lately and an engine mount at just 33k doesn't sound good really. It only happens when I pull off the throttle. I wonder how much thats going to cost me.

Mine's been doing at around 3K miles!!!

Shouldn't cost anything if it's still under warranty.

Mine isnt. Oh well, either live with it or use the credit card I guess.

Mine did it at 11k and the garage said that one of the gearbox mounts had dried up! This was then re greased and for 15k it was fine. Now i'm at 32k and I just had one of the gearbox mounts replaced as its very anoying because i think they have replaced the wrong one!!! Asked them to get another one in and to replace and regrease the correct one this time.

Also the plate the seat is on has got movement in it and that is on order.

Also have a strange wind noise when at speed coming from the rear interior, don't know what it is sounds like a window is open a touch but noine of them are...

Just spoke to the garage and they have told me that the gearbox mounts shouldn't be greased, so I don't know what the first guy was talking about when he said he re greased them???

Now I don't know whats going on.

Moving to streatham in two weeks, hope the garage there is better...

The dealer had a look at the what was causing the squeak this afternoon.

After telling them that I thought it was coming from the gearbox mount area, they found a loose clutch pipe which was rubbing on top of the gearbox area.

Took it for a test drive & no more squeak!!!
