Change of spec. from Superb Estate to Hatchback

Change of spec.from Superb Estate to Hatchback to gain 0% VAT offer plus 0% finance & it’s effect on delivery.

I thought forum readers might be interested in my journey from ordering an Estate and then ultimately taking delivery of a Hatchback version with a very similar specification.

My initial order on 1st September 2011 was for a Skoda Superb Elegance DSG diesel Estate with an estimated delivery of mid January 2012.

I was away on holiday until early October and during this time I was constantly looking at the SKODA website to see if any other SKODA Superbs had been offered the 0% VAT offer. On my return from holiday I noticed that the Hatchback version of the Superb Elegance DSG diesel had also been included with the 0% VAT offer.

At this point I had to ask the question as to do I really need an Estate when I could buy the Twin Door Hatchback for just about £3,500 less and also be available for 0% Finance. Also what would this do for the ultimate used car values in three to four years time. I could not believe that if a used Hatchback and Estate were both for sale at the same time with a similar specification that the Estate would not lose more value than the Hatchback. It would probably be priced higher but the 0% VAT offer on the Hatchback would probably bring the Estate version down more than normal.

My decision was easy from a financial point of view but would this make the delivery date go way past the January estimate to be more like February or March. I contacted my dealer who understood my position so I cancelled my Estate order with SKODA’s blessing after I advised them that I no longer needed an Estate car.

On the 12th October I placed an order for the Hatchback version of the same car and was surprised to be told soon after that my anticipated delivery date was likely to come forward to mid/late December even though my new order was some six weeks later.

I was totally taken by surprise that when my dealer phoned me on the 26th November to advise that the car had just been delivered to their garage. Four working days later I collected the car on 1st December which made a total of 51 days from a bespoke order to my collection.

The icing on the cake was that the 0% Finance offer was also extended to my Hatchback so I was able to take out the finance on 50% of the cost of the car over a two year period.

I think you must agree that I achieved a great result !!

The actual spec of my new Skoda Superb is as follows:

Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI Cr 170ps Elegance DSG Hatchback

Steel Grey metallic

18” Luxon alloy wheels (free option)

Space saver spare wheel

Heated windscreen

Hill Hold Control

KESSY – Keyless entry and start

Onyx leather and dark grey/black interior

Park Assist- Front parking sensors

Wood decor

I have only driven the car for 50 miles at the moment but I must say that I am totally impressed and it is indeed SUPERB.

By the way, I bought the car through West Sussex Motors who have also been SUPERB so if you are in our neck of the woods why don’t you give the sales team a call, you will not be disappointed.

When I can work out how to upload photos I’ll post them on the forum site.

Sounds like a good deal all round, well done

I am in this dilhemma. Most people seem to prefer the estate but I cannot see the specification advantage. Unlike the Fabias the Octavia and Superb Estates are barely bigger than the hatchbacks so unless you want roof rails cannot see where the extra thousand pound goes.

The Superb hatchback needs something on the boot and I wondering if I can get the Greenline boot lip on the 1.8TSI DSG I am ordering later this month. Would have loved the 4 tail pipes but they only come on the 2 litre TSI and 3.6 litre petrol.

Thought of the 170 hp diesel but as I do not pay for fuel but have to buy the car myself I would go for the petrol rather than the diesel.

Residuals are about 1% or so better on the estates but this nowhere near balances of the 0% deal advantage on car and accessories.

Personally I wouldnt base a purchase around what's on VAT offer. With an hours research online you can often match these offers through an Internet broker. I saved over £4k off list when I bought my estate a year ago.

So with a quick look, you might find more options available in the same price range you were looking to pay.

Cheers

Steve

Estate looks better and carries more? :)

The main benefits are simply aesthetics - the saloon / twinhatch is fugly, the rear end does nothing for the car at all, whereas the estate looks a 1000x's better.
