Octavia vRS revisions

Featured Replies

Just bought a vRS Octyand wondered what the difference was between the early ones and the post revision cars?

Mine is a 2001 Y with 40k and is absolutely immaculate. I tend to buy on condition rather than age and was prepared to spend a fair bit more but the others I saw (inclcuding an 04 plate with 15k) weren't as nice as this one so I'm just wondering what I'm missing out in that the later cars have and the earlier ones don't.

I think the engine is an AUQ code - is this a VVT, with drive by wire throttle?

Anyway I'm picking the car up on Thursday and I can't wait. Next step is to find the right remap - what does everyone recommend? My friend has a Golf 1.8T GTI with a Jabba remap and it's very impressive with smooth delivery.

Also does anyone know how much 'official' vRS mats cost as ours only has cheapo mats!

Later cars have a smooth rear wiper :)

Mats are around

The first ones had 16" alloys - andl possibly a steel spare

first revision included flick Knife type ignition key

Blue tinted side mirrors

next revision had grey/black headlining rather than previous white.

think there was something else but cant remember.

As John says some of the Y regs did have 16" wheels, but some had 17" ones. Mines a Y reg with 17" alloys, flick key and white headlining. As far as I know there weren't any changes to mechanical / engine parts and very little on interior etc so alls good

Mine is June 2001 but has 17"alloys flic key, tinted mirrors etc. :)

Mine's march 2001 and had 16" alloys (long gone now) and has a non-flick key.

I believe a door open warning light was added later as well.

mines Y 2001.came with 17's including full size spare, flicky keys.

AUQ engine is fly by wire and vvt, though this offers no extra performance if my reading on here is correct, its to adjust cam timing on cold starts for emissons.

has the K03's turbo on it too

I think all Octavia vRS's have the AUQ (drive by wire) engine.

Very early models were based on the Ambiente trim level (aircon instead of CC, etc.). I can't remember the full details, but I remember that the spec. in May 2001 put me off buying a (then newly introduced) vRS instead of the Elegance model (quite aside from the automatic transmission angle - that was an afterthought).

pre 2000 models didnt have vvt and drive by wire throttle.

vvt is only used for low speed emmisions and fuel consumption though not for performance like the toyota engine.

Thanks guys - had a good search on engine codes - was just thinking about tuning options really. I think I'll settle for a simple remap.

Mine has a normal key and white headlining and I believe the alloys are 16's but it has a full size spare alloy. It does have climate though.

The 04 model I test drove had the dark headlining which would have been nice - it was one of my favourite touched on my Lupo GTi. Is it possible to get a new flick type key cut and coded? Any idea how much this would cost?

got no idea but the dealer did tell me that the keys were expensive and hard to get hold of if i didnt have the long plastic fob thing with codes on...

Just picked the car up tonight and it's fantastic. Dealer found the vRS mats so that's one less thing to worry about and the wheels are 17's - don't know why I got it into my head that they were 16's!

It's absolutely mint and just begging to be chipped ;-)
