Cost of VAG front spring for vRS

Featured Replies

I have a favour to ask.

Would those in the know be able to PM me the cost of a replacement spring for an Octy RS?

A friend of mine's had one snap at the base ( ) in his octy. Would like to have a guestimate for the cost of the part before going to the dealers.

Also, any idea as to the labour time involved in changing over?

Ta muchly :)

Labour time will be remove complete strut - use tensioners to coil up springs, undo top, tension new spring and replace. Should think its around 2 hours work for a good mechanic given the traditional stubborness of front struts.

Its a front one right? As rears are much easier to do I believe (well, on a furby... :o)

I'd say a single new spring would be around

I wouldn't advocate buying just one.

They should be replaced in pairs - it'll affect your suspension setup.

German Swedish and french list these for the Passat, dunno if they are the same

To identify the right part from ETKA one needs to know the G and L optional equipment codes listed on the vehicle's data sticker. (Dealers should have access to individual car specs by VIN on their parts computer). Possible options for a vRS are probably G85/L13 or G5/L14 - coil spring for sports-type running gear - assuming they are the only Octavia models with that type of suspension. Prices are

Yes this is my car

Got in to drive home last night and there was an almighty bang from the front of the car!

Initial though was i'd damaged the engine or clutch but as no warning lights came on and the car moved back forwards into it's space all seemed fine again.

Called my recovery and they pulled out this chunk of spring!

p.s. the cars done 60k.

Looks like this wasn't a slow fracture, it's just seems to have gone with a big bang!

Has anyone heard of this before on an RS?

Has anyone heard of this before on an RS?

No - but it was a known problem with a Passat TS I owned years ago. I only found that out after paying for replacements myself.

It's not uncommon on cars - I don't know if the vRS is specifically affected.
