MDI interface connectors

Featured Replies

Whilst impatiently waiting delivery..... do the interfaces connectors come with this factory fitted option? Else, is the bay the best source for them?

Cheers :)

You get the choice of one cable to suit your device when you collect your car.

Im also waiting Impatiently for delivery....

I spoke to my Salesman the other day and he said some come with the lead - some dont. I said mine had better come with one - he has promised me one (I asked for the Iphone one)

I considered buying the USB version too - but then I realised that the Head unit has 20Gb free space and I can stick a 32Gb SD card in the slot (I suppose I could even stick a DVD full of MP3 in there too)

I eventually came to the conclusion that I'd have TOO MUCH music LOL!!

You can never have too much music! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

I just wish it came with a DAB option, so I can listen to Gold.

What are the options for adding an iPod connector to a Bolero unit on an Octavia Elegance ?

I didnt have the option of having MDI fitted at the factory as the car was pre-built.

If it's not an easy fit I could just buy an SD card. Whats the maximum size it supports ?

Thanks.

I think you can get it retro fitted, but in regard to cost I don't know.

As for SD card, it'll accept up to 32Gb, Not that I bother with it as it's a pain in the bum.

I only got ipod cable and I had to pay for it was all part of initial order too £20 odd I think they had off me :'( best dealer (NOT) strikes again!

As previously mentioned - 32Gb is the max.

A 32Gb card holds "About" 7000 songs !!!!!

give it a go with a 4gb card from Asda - it holds "About" 800 songs Asda PNY 4Gb SDHC card

Im currently using an old 2Gb card (I have 20 CD's on it and it isnt full.....)

Looks like it's an £185 factory fit for the MDI kit. What do you get for that ?

Why do you say that about the SD cards ?

Because the way that the Bolero reads the SD card and it has to be done in a certain way to get the best out of it and don't expect it to do an Ipod style shuffle using the MIX button, it doesn't work that way either. emoticon-0120-doh.gif

You may well find that if you have a brand new car that your Bolero system has a different firmware so will do things differently. Mine's a pain in the bum, so I don't use it.

I saw that thread while I was awaiting mine to arrive and its why I got MDI option on the order but since ive had it I have tried a cheapy Class6 16gb SD card to test and fired music in at root and all the way to 6 folders deep and it worked perfectly for me was GUTTED! would just have fired a pile of music on that and been happy :( might be a newer firmware indeed. I also had same result with a microSD in an SD adaptor navigates faster than my ipod classic 80gb threw MDI ironically.

Cheers guys. It's a brand new car so hopefully it will work out ok and SD cards are cheap enough nowadays :)

It won't recognise 32Gb worth of music at normal bitrates though! I wanted to get 500+ CDs worth available in the car and it fits on the 32Gb SDHC but my Bolero doesn't recognise much more than half.

I would have specified the MDI if I'd known and I eventually retrofitted after much 32Gb SD card based frustration!

MDI is the OEM solution. You can buy everything you need off e-bay for £150 if you don't mind taking your dash apart yourself. There is lots of advice on here on fitting.

Please note though I (and others) have found MDI needs coding with VCDS to work on recent cars.

IIRC MDI dealer retrofit is £300+

Bolero has limitations to the number of files it will load from an SD. Its certainly a problem with a 32Gb card. A "full" 16Gb might be fine.

I'd have to use a 32Gb card, because of the size of my collection! 3000+ tracks @ 320kbps.

I suppose I could knock the quality back a tad to 256kbps or even 192kbps, which would take it back down to a more reasonable size.

Its not the size of card or number of Gigabytes of music in total but the number of files. I think its limited to about 2000 I'm afraid. So reducing quality may just be wasting your time.

Of course this may have changed with newer firmware or some say it even depends on the manufacturer of the Bolero....I guess load em up and see....
