Rear View Camera

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried this rear view camera?

I like the fact that it'd be pretty hidden, but I really don't like the fact that I'd lose one of my number plate lights for it. If you've had it (or one like it) could you let me know what it's like etc?

Or, if anyone has got any other suggestions for a rear view camera that would look original but not make me lose a number plate light, I'm all ears!

Thanks in advance!

Ah that looks good (and cheap!). How easy is it to set up? And what have you got it hooked up to? I'm hoping to get a Columbus in the New Year but I'm not sure if cameras can be hooked up to them or not.

Cameras can be hooked up to Coloumbus. Threr was an Octy vrs hatch for sale a couple of months ago that had one of these and Coloumbus and it showed the picture from the camera on the screen.

Very tempting. Will they work with the Bolero?

can they be wired to only come on when reverse gear is selected?

..........but you lose a numberplate light and gain...........???

Sorry guys but struggling to see the usefulness of a rear view camera unless you are (a) unable to turn your head / have full mobility (in which cae you probably should reconsider driving altogether as you are unable to check your blind spots) or (B) just plain incompetent!

There is also an argument that people start to rely ob cameras and parking sensore and less on their own eyes

Sure it's cheap but its yet another gadget :giggle:

The cheaper ebay one keeps a smaller numberplate light

It literally is for the geek factor! lol! And tbf, I park somewhere that the wall is on a 45 degree angle so the sensors are useless for it and it's difficult to judge in my mirrors. I can judge it, but it'd be nice to have a cool camera just to be sure! lol!

Very useful if you do a lot of solo towing and need to hitch up on your own...

Fair enough - at least the OP confesses its for the geek factor - well done for coming clean

My boss has just bought himself a Range Rover "Posh Spice" (ne:Evoke) and that has cameras in the front bumper for pulling out of blind corners..............its also got one of those split screen LCDs so the passenger can watch fFreeview while the driver has the nav. Gobsmacking geekdom!

i agree with the whole just turn you neck thing etc! agree agree agree.

but i bought a Mk6 Golf Gti in March this year and this had the camera as well as F + R sensors and the camera is brilliant! I thought i would not be bothered as my 2009 Scooby Sti only had rear sensors and they did the job, but the camera just gives you that perfect view! yes parking sensors are good and a turn of the neck helps alot but, yes the camera is geeky, cool whatever but just do it, they are great and everyone in Dubai seems to have them even fiited to cr4p old toyotas and nissans that are 15+ years old!

Do it! Post pics

lol yeah, it's all about the geek for me! It's one of the reasons I want the Columbus sat nav. Just wish it wasn't Christmas as I could have already bought myself all of this if I hadn't had to pay for presents! Hopefully by about March time I'll be able to get the Columbus and other goodies fitted :)

can this work on a bolero?

can this work on a bolero?

Don't think so, there's no video input as far as I'm aware, unlike on the Columbus.

As I've asked in an earlier post, what, if any, video inputter would you need? Or does the camera just plug straight into the back of the Columbus?

Thanks

Mike

I >believe< you need a video input. I >think< you may be able to access somethihg on the large connector at the back however I am pretty sure you will require an NTSC camera for this to work correctly and there is bound to be some coding involved.........and trim removal.........

Is there any OEM VAG Cameraes that might fit the Octy?

This mabye?

For the Jetta Sportwagen, Golf Sportwagen, Golf Wagon, Jetta Variant, and/or the Golf Variant, the part number for the rear handle with the camera is 5n0 827 566 j (5n0827566j).

Thanks for the link, but it is not a direct replacement. You have to cut in yor hatch to make it fit:

And? It's only a couple of mm you need to remove and you'll not see anything when its all fitted. You'll never get a 100% OEM fitment as the Octy never had the camera option.

Any photos of the install after a few mm removal?
