1.2 105 TSi DSG - what revs at 70mph?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wondering what revs the engine spins at in 7th at 70 or 80mph? Cold anyone confirm please. Also, if anyone has been on a euro trip in a 1.2 TSi DSG - how did you find it for the long distances and sustained higher speeds? Thanks in advance. :-)

I was in France in September, Cruising at 70/80 was pleasant and conversations could be had, compared to a 2008 Corsa 1.4 auto where ear defenders were req! I returned 49mpg for the trip complying to all speed limits, but this plummeted when I re-entered GB and joined the madness of our motorway system to 44mpg. Constant speed cruising is easy in France whereas it's on/off the throttle in GB.

Motorway cruising in 7th at 70mph about 2,500 revs. Long distance journey, Scotland to the South Coast of England and back (about 450 miles each way 8-10 hours travelling), over 500 miles from a tank of fuel, very comfy seats, arrive relaxed.

When you are going uphill or want mild acceleration the gears can drop to 6th or 5th, using kick down in D might even resort to 4th to get to the engines max power, around 5,000 revs. using S mode will make 6th gear top.

An addition to the S mode: if you use the cruise control the gearbox will use the highest possible gear (7th on highway speeds), but the instant you release the cruise control the car shifts down one or two gears depending on your speed. Clever!

WOW - 2,500rpm at 70 is what Im after ideally. Sounds good, especially for a small capacity unit. Many thanks for the feedback.

That's not bad for a little engine at all tbh.

Many small engines you're looking at least 3,000 rpm!

Still seems like they could have given it a higher 7th gear? Where does the 1.2 TSi get it's torque? Very low isn't it?

At 70 in mine it's just a smidge under 2000rpm which is right on the torque band.

From the Skoda UK website the power and torque for the 1.2 105 DSG

Max power - PS/rpm 105/5000

Max torque - Nm/rpm 175/1550-4100

You certainly notice a lack of punch under 2,000 revs which is why S mode keeps the revs above this and to be honest the switch between D and S modes seems enough to cope with most situations where you want the extra response from your right foot.
