Time for some power?

Featured Replies

People I'm tempted to go stage 3 with unit 18?

Thoughts?

Convince me lol

Pooooower lol

Go for it more power and your car will be in great hands at unit 18!

Have a look at Darkside Developments! Buy their turbo kit and uprated injectors, get u18 to fit and you'll have some serious power!

Option 2...

Save the money, save a bit more and then just get a better car thats built around the speed/power it was designed for?

I would have done the same. but being so young and the fabia being insurance group 9, its a smart choice choosing the lil fabia compared to if i bought a leon cupra r i could never get insured lol.

Booo, where's the fun in that? Then everyone's car of the same sort will be the same. [sheep smiley]

What injectors do you recommend?? I prefer the shock factor not look at me in my big old fancy petrol turbo, I'd rather cover you in smoke and leave you :)

Drop unit 18 a email, talk thru what you want from it, Ali will be more than happy to share his knowledge he has had experience with most tuning routes on the fabia's. I can't fault the work he has done on mine over the past 3 years. Even if you just get an idea of costs and choices before you decide, he'll be happy to help.

Yeah I spoke to him last week and he said around £3400 for

Hybrid 150 turbo

Fmic

Helix clutch and single mass

Gaskets And oil

Map

I'd go for it, love my Fabia for your reasons, not in your face, nice suprise factor :D plus I can still get 50mpg if I'm semi sensible

62mpg last night going to lakeside :)

People who say you should just buy a different car **** me off.

For instance you could have had the Fabia since day one and know it inside out (full service and so on..) also insurance and cost. I believe the Fabia is one of the fastest and best looking group 9 car from standard.

If you have the cash floating about go for it. I look forward to seeing the results.

Spot on

i undestand its better for insurance but how much is it increasing with the mods you guys run assuming you declare them alll???

surely a tuned fabia wil be similar in cost to a standard cupra r etc etc ???

p.s there is going to be a large clamp down on modded cars in the next month where the police pull over cars that look not standard and they check to make sure you have declared items

I cant talk for anyone else, obviously every situation is different, but a mapped fabia was cheaper than a cupra tdi. Now i`m running 200-220bhp and its still cheaper than a LCR, plus cheaper to fuel, cheaper to tax etc. Plus I enjoy modding it, its a hobby, I couldnt have a standard car tbh. The police can clamp down all they like, I`m legal, couldnt give a monkeys

Well compared to a quote of £2000 for a standard r26 megane or vxr

Against

£700 for my vrs?

Claiming every mod would still be cheaper!

My previous car was insurance group 18, the Fabia is 9??

Well this year my premium was £130 more than last year.

Insurance may have gone up overall I agree, but the point is dont just go by the number, its pretty meaningless in most cases.

I bet If you do a quote on a Cupra R and the VRS the price is not far off.

That aside, each to their own on heavily modifying a car. I can see why people may want to do it but the other option of just buying a better car does have a lot of things going for it!

If we take the Cupra R all it needs is a map and you have a 250 BHP car with Brembo brakes and pretty good handling. It looks good and is well specced up. Build quality is a lot better than a fabia as is image. All its components are setup for the power including uprated hubs over a standard Leon, 2 intercoolers, a pump that pumps coolant around after you swithch it off.

The list goes on but the main thing is that the car is a package. A realiable package thats easy to sell.

For me I'd go that way. The fabia has the advantage of MPG and a few othe rsmall things, but these are far outweighed by the advantages of just getting the better car.

Yeah, don't bother with the 2260 kit. I don't want too many fabias following my lead thanks :D

Insurance on a standard cupra r is £760 more!!

Ah.

If you declare the mods though I bet its a different story.

Even if its £700 more though you still have to way all your options up - thats all I'm really saying here.

Don't forget about things like how hard the car will be to sell, how much money it will lose etc etc. All boring things but its not as clear cut as car A costs more to insure than car B therefore its cheaper.

EDIT - Dont forget reliability as well and potential costs there.

Declaring mods will never be the same amount of money of most cars insurance,

Plus reliablity - depends wat mods and how the works been done!

Selling - simple sell as standard get money from modded parts?

^^^ Exactly, standard LCR is more for me to insure over my modded fabia. Plus fuel, a LCR wouldnt touch even 40mpg on a run, while the fabia will do it day to day. Tax is cheaper, parts are cheaper, build quality is equal to the seat if not better. The 100`s of fabia`s running 200+bhp for years proves they are reliable even tuned.

Its all bolt on stuff so when selling time comes, just swap the parts and get some money back for the mods.

Mods seem to vary really. To fit better brakes @ 20y/o costs me £30. Last year when I was 19 y/o - £80! Suspension - £50ish.

The problem seems to be when you add lots, then I struggled badly to find anyone who was willing to insure me at all, hence I had to reject the car I wanted to buy (the vRS estate). I'd get a few quotes before you commit to the work, if you haven't already.

To fit a tracker, £80 increase! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

Not much point in me going on or taking a laod of time up on this but it would seem you have alrady made your mind up anyway :)

Build quality the same? go sit in a Leon - its night and day.

And thats the problem here I think, your not actually open minded enough to think about or go look at other options.
