Slight run on after turning off the ignition

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

I'm sure I've seen something about this before, but haven't been able to find it.

Sometimes when I turn the ignition off there is a fraction of a run on from the engine.

I do have a a couple of other faults to address, but none that I believe would cause this. They are:

Check temp sender - either dodgy connection or duff sender - causing over ready, long diesel heater period and can see temperature reading are well out of whack

Possible failing battery - sometimes, particulalry after having been unused for a few days and cold in the morning there is a flick from the ASR light and the one below (ABS?) just as the engine catches when starting

Smoke, but only when started - think this might be related to temp sender and over fuelling

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tom

Faulty/Lazy/Sticking stop solenoid?

That's the first thing that springs to mind.

TDI? Could be your anti-shudder valve not closing quickly enough?

It's easy to visually check the anti-shudder flap. When you shut off the engine it should operate and stay in that position for 3+ seconds.

as above, anti-shudder assembly being slow to operate....
