Seat belt warning bleep

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have any of you ever been able to turn off the seat belt warning chimes?

On previous cars I've had I've been able too, so wondered if there was a way on the Superb?

Thanks

Colin

Yes they can both be disabled with VCDS

Another way would be to unplug them, but I have not tried or looked for the wiring as I coded mine out

Why would you want to disable them?

They stop if you fasten your seatbelt!

The buzzer is integrated in the instrument cluster and shares the same speaker as all the other noises it makes (bongs, indicator ticks etc). So you can't just unplug it. You need to code it out of the instrument cluster.

One of the first things I did. It doesn't suit my workflow. I start the car and then put on my belt. It's so ingrained in me that I felt weird in Vietnam where the taxis didn't even have seatbelts.

Further, if you have a weight on the passenger seat (i.e. a bag or something, lets not get started about missiles in a collision) then that seatbelt would need to be plugged in too as the seat occupied sensor would trigger the warning.

Unfortunatley, it's one setting to disable both the chime and light. I could live with the light still working and just turn off the chime.

Exact same reasons as wokwon.

Another reason is that it gets on my nerves  I'm more than happy to have the light flashing but not the beeping!

So, does anyone have the 'code'

I actually meant unplugging the loom going to the seatbelt buckle.

It is all part of the long code, simply un-tick (or tick, it - it was 12 months ago I did mine) the relevant boxes, it is straightforward when you see it (under 17 - Instruments, my code WAS: 41 1F 01, with both seatbelt warnings disabled it changed to 41 1D 01)

That would probably throw a 'out of range' or 'implausible signal' code. A lot of the switches in the car aren't straight open/close. They're instead set up like a house alarm system where there are 2 states, high resistance and low resistance. A full open or short is an error condition that can be used to detect failed wiring etc.

I'm not saying the seat belt switch is one of those, I'm just saying a lot of the switches/sensors in the car are.

You don get a bong or sound until you are travelling at 12MPH, if you are travelling that fast then the seatbelt should be on anyway.

When the instrument panel is coded to Australia there are 3 pings as soon as the key is turned to on if the belt buckle isn't inserted. That is what I find annoying. It may be different in other regions.

I have not seen any fault codes thrown up on cars with the seatbelt plug is disconnected, as all the buckle does is to break the loom, which is why disconnecting the plug just fools the car into thinking the buckle IS connected.

I ALWAYS prefer to code them out when available though (it does not work on some Octavia's though)

As previously stated elsewhere I do not condone not wearing a seatbelt when driving on the road, BUT there are times when I am driving around a yard, or have a lunchbox on the passenger seat which it then drives me crazy!

Different people have different requirements from a car, what will suit one person will not suit another, but since it is not illegal to not have the bongs and I am sensible enough to ALWAYS wear a seatbelt when on the road then it is simply a 'feature' that I do not require.

I suppose all the neyseyer's will also tell me I was wrong to code out the beeps for my electric tailgate also - I would think my neighbours are grateful of it not beeping at 3AM anymore though! :giggle:

Also one of the first things I will be doing when my car arrives.

I assume it's in the Central convenience? Now that Ross-Tech encrypts the label files I can't snoop until I get a car :(

No it's under 6D - Trunk Elect (Electronics 2) look for Byte 1 Bit 5 and untick the "tone generator installed"
