what is max power/torque that oem clutch can handle?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

as in title, just wondering what is highest close limit that oem clutch can handle, who is running most bhp on standard clutch,

I know people start saying that for high power wont last long, depends on clutch condition and that should be changed for fast road/organic/singlemass etc,

but I would like to know who is running what power/torque on standard clutch and how long for, thanks for that

really appreciated

cheers, hornas23

p.s Ive tried search engine first :)

I'm running around 200bhp/300lbft, starting to slip a bit more now but the car's on 91k miles

Been remapped from 35k miles

Also depends a lot on how you drive.

You could have 200bhp, drive it properly and it be fine, or you could have 55bhp, drive like a lemon and kill it in a week.

Of course we talkin proper way of driving,

coz thinkin to put some more bhp not too much

and wondering if that would be fine for brand new oem clutch

I'd change it if you plan to go over 200. Anything under that, I wouldn't worry unless your car is a high miler.

105k puttin new clutch and just wondering roughly wat sort of power could go for obviously upto 200 so to members who drive on oem clutch with higher power please share with us

Until recently everyone said a remap was the limit. however, a few on here have proved running 200bhp with a very good map is possible. As far as i`m aware no one has gone further on a OEM clutch, but if your going for 220-230-240+ you might as well get a uprated one so you can really use the power all the time.

Remember it's the torque figure you should be paying more attention to and where it makes it's peak torque. I've had mine pegged at 300lbft by Shark, no doubt I could run slightly more torque if I had an uprated clutch.

As I said upto 200bhp not silly torque, thinking to put PD150 + remap + possibly custom FMIC thats it

so:

A can of worms question. Very much depends on map and mods and how you drive. Plus a smidgeon of luck. I'd say anywhere near 300lbft and you're pushing it.

Only running 180bhp but torque is at 320lb/ft

Its lasted 30k so far 80k miles but the DMF looks to be getting a bit rattly

No slip at all though

wat mods u got and wat remap u running?

if I can ask :)

Engine wise is only a remap, panel filter, and it was a cold day when the RR was done. haha

Its a DMS Automotive remap

Edit, it was 176bhp and 332 lb/ft

Graph here:

I use to have a dms remap. Made 160bhp/300lbft.

so goin to fit stanard clutch for begining,

thanks for all

Woah savage torque spike there!

Oem clutch wont last at that

Yep, I'm dubious about those figures (my PD150 only made 320ft/lb on a map, and my Fabia does 330 but is hybrided) but the shape will be pretty accurate and a low down spike like that isn't generally good for your components (both clutch and flywheel, that's what did mine in).

For example my hybrid peak torque was 3,800rpm

Its all about how long it lasts! Not peak low down clutch shredding torque ;)

So u think if I put PD150 maybe FMIC with stage2 shark map my OEM clutch wont last long? by long 30k is long enough for me

Shark will look after you and do everything they can to keep everything under control for your standard clutch. If you had power delivery like the graph above, and used it to accelerate from low RPM then I wouldn't expect it to last long though.

not gunna rev it from low revs, etc. proper way driving we talking,

not after high high torque, 300ft/lb max, and power upto 190bhp if pssible by PD150 and custom FMIC + stage2 shark map,

just asking if that will last for 20-30k max on brand new OEM clutch with no slip

thanks

A decent mapper will be able keep the torque in check so should give you plenty of life.

Its all about how you drive. I never boot mine below 2500rpm and the clutch has lasted on those figures for around 30k. Its my daily so thats a mixture of spirited driving and going to work

My DMF is now on its way out but it was in pretty good shape when i got it mapped

I would say, 300ft/lb is the max with careful driving and your clutch and DMF should last you the 30k. Thinking of upgrading after 30k?

Torque and bhp can be configured seperately to an extent

For example 2 pd130's ive owned were running completely different setups

One was 173bhp and 374lb-ft torque

And the other was 267bhp and 318lb/ft torque
