Front fog adjustment

Featured Replies

I seem to remember reading something somewhere about being able to adjust the angle of the front fogs to adjust the beam.

Does anyone know how to do this? Obviously it's not electronic like the headlights, so I'm just wondering whether you can adjust the angle of the bracket that holds the fog light or perhaps the fog light bulb itself to adjust the level of the beam?

Cheers...

There's some sort of screw somewhere on the fog lamp unit itself when removed. I imagine all it does is change the angle of the reflector, thus altering the beam. (Edit: bearing in mind different lamps as highlighted below by Giandougl, this is on the tear drop shaped pre-facelift fog lamps).

Bear in mind fogs are only legally used in reduced visibility 100m or less and must be switched off once conditions improve http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069859

There are two types of Fabia VRS foglights, with different fitting light mouldings, as the bumper was re-styled after a certain year.

I have looked at my June 2005 Fabia VRS and they are attached by self-tapper screws from beneath and above.( Removal of bumper to access these screws I believe leaves no other choice.)

I have seen pictures of the other sort (on this site) where the light is attached by self-tappers screwed from the front.

To further answer your question can they be adjusted, I believe my sort can, as SKODA fitted one years ago and charged me for it + adjustment.

Just came across this thread:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/110801-ordinary-fog-light-black-bits/

I have fog lights and light surrounds like these pics, as you can see on the top pic there is a small plastic hole, I am just wondering if this is where you adjust the fog light beam with a screwdriver? Or does the fog light need to be removed for adjustment? Surely you must be able to adjust the fog light with it in situ, otherwise the beam angle could change when refitting...

Cheers...

Just for anyone who searches this post in future, I managed to adjust the beam of my fog lights. I have set mine to maximum height, which still happens to be lower than the dipped beam headlights, before they were angled directly at the ground so I was only getting 2-3 meters light in front of the car which is no use at night time - even in fog which reflects light!

I have the round fog light type secured with screws that must be undone through the front of the vehicle (removal of the fog light surround is necessary to access the screws and the adjustment screw). Adjustment of other fog light types may differ.

Quick step by step guide for my fog light type:

1. Park on a level surface against a wall

2. Remove fog light surrounds (sharp tug should do it)

3. Turn on engine and turn on side lights, dipped beam and front fog lights. Make sure that your fog lights aren't already/don't go above your dipped beam headlights to avoid dazzling other road users and still retain the ability to cut under fog.

4. Adjust the beam adjustment screw (clearly different to the 3 screws that hold the fog light in place), I believe it was clockwise to make the beam higher and anti-clock wise to lower the beam, but to check you can remove each foglight by unscrewing the 3 securing screws and make sure that the bottom of each fog light is being pulled in by the clamp so that the angle of the fog light will be raising up.

5. When you are happy with the level on your car, turn off engine and all lights. Secure fog light with screws if removed and replace fog light surround.

6. The fog light beams are not tested in the MOT, so make sure to test drive in an unlit area with no road users to ensure beam is not above dipped headlights and the fog lights are at the desired angle - setting the fog light beams too high is dangerous and will increase the risk of dazzling other road users and causing an accident.

Important: Please use this mod responsibly and if you do make your fog light beams higher, please only use your fogs in fog to avoid dazzling other road users, this mod is not for idiots that drive around with their fogs on all the time, if you are one of these people, perhaps consider lowering your beam to it's lowest possible level.
