Featured Replies

Hello,

Has there anyone repaired a intercooler which has been burst on the plastic?

If so how did you do it?

Here's my intercooler its quite a big crack but I would rather try fixing it before getting another one!

Remove and find a plastic welder?

Does the plastic come apart from the core?

i personaly would just put superglue on the crack, push it back together so its all in place, let it dry then put fibreglass resin over the whole lot! that wouldnt go anywhere.. i fixed a boost pipe like that before lol

Rough! haha

I would try anything I was thinking on getting an old fish box and a solder iron and see how that goes 1st!

You're welcome to my orginal one from my Mk1 Octy vRS if it's any use to you?

plastic welding could make it thinner in area's and pop it again.. try glueing it in place then melting some plastic over it. that could work

Fibreglass resin is the way as it will be stronger than the plastic around it

and cheapest :D just superglue roughly together first to hold the shape! :)

There are loads of TDI fabia and other PD130 in scrap yards.

Just go and pick one up from there for not much, wash it through, let it dry then fit it.

Far cheaper than fibreglass, unless you've already got the fibreglass kit/filler.

JB weld the stuff you will be needing, Joint must be clean and roughed up for best results, as long as you make sure the parts are completly coated and back into there original position it will work.

One thing to note, it takes at least over night to harden, do not be tempted to check on it after a couple of hours, guess how I know about that.

By any chance are they the same as Fabia vRS ones?

What if it wasnt back in the original poisiton? It's quite tough stuff and I would need a G clamp to put it back into place I beleive.

I was just going to fill it.

I'm going to phone Overton and see if they have any intercoolers!

you wont fill it, it will pop it out, you need it mostly back in shape

Thought it would wasnt too sure.

Anyone heard of mixing ABS plastic with Acetone?

These things are not expensive, so seriously don't spend much time/money "fixing it".

wasn't planning on spending more than £10 on stuff to fix it...

I'm looking to spend as little as on it due to Xmas and its not the only part I need replaced

when my boost pipe cam off i think i tried every bodge possible, i couldt afford an intercooler at the time and i needed it for work.

the two materials that worked for me is a type of putty that turned rock hard after curing, cant remember what its called but can be found at most motor factors but the best one i found is windscreen sealant
