Retrofitting bluetooth

Featured Replies

Well, I almost managed to completely retrofit Bluetooth compatibility in my vrs.. Only thing missing is to pull a cable for the mic through the pillar next to the windshield.

Syncing works, call lists etc works, bt audio works. I assume for being able to answer calls via steering wheel some coding has to happen?

It took me almost 1,5h to get this far, including atleast 50min fitting/refitting the cables behind the head unit.. I shoved the bt module in a hole under the head unit, no issues there.

The fiddling was to get room for the original head unit big ass connector somewhere.. Unbelievable! I needed like 1cm of space and then it would be no issues, but noooooo.. But hey, at least it was fun and I learned something.

Quick question though.. Has anyone removed the plastic pillar next to the windscreen and can give directions? Thanks.

Just give it a good tug as long as there are no airbags in there.....

I tried to do so yesterday, but was afraid that if I pulled even more that the plastic could brake. :|

What do you need for the bluetooth retrofit and how much is it?

+1 on this.

Researched it before, interested to see how you did this.

Swing radio headunit?

I got mine from carsystems.pl including everything.

Yes, I have the swing unit.

There's 3 clips on the pillar. Quite stiff to get out first few times. Pull it across the dash for top 2 clips and then up across and up for the bottom one. Please be careful though.

I have fitted a Parrot bluetooth kit and an auto-dimming mirror -didn't remove the plastic -Just pulled back the rubber door seal and worked the cables underneath.

Which model? I am presuming the 35030F retrofit model.

How long does the vcds bit take?

I suggest you send them an email with your specs, because as it seems the bt modules do not work with all car models. Depends on maxi dot, head unit etc..

They are very helpful and do answer very quickly.

I got the 7P6035730F kit for my car.

Thanks p1t8ull, I'll try that during the weekend and be back with status report.

Yeap, all cables are now in place.. A word of advice though.. When reattaching the pillar be sure that all metal clips are in position because they can pop off their cradle and you'll never see them again as they fall behind the dashboard.
