Favorit Lacks Speed

Featured Replies

Just got an M reg Favorit Estate today.

Took it for a test drive before buying which was just round town.

When I was driving it home and I got onto the A1 it would not go above 65 miles an hour with the accelerator flat on the floor.

Back in town near home drives perfectly

Any ideas please

Thanks

any misfires? services up to date? been sitting for a while?

service and fresh fuel would be my first bet :)

oil, filter, fuel filter, plugs, air filter and top up with decent fuel :)

check that the exhaust silencers havent collapsed internally

Yeah, or the cat if it has one - had one collapse during a rally, ended up being totally gutless, barely did 50!

Thanks for the suggestions - I will check them out tomorrow

Oh, and check the brakes aren't dragging too.

Was it the one that has just finished on ebay? If so, looked like a bargain! Valve clearance are worth checking, you may be losing compression if they are very tight. Mine were. Easy job, just check and re-check before putting the rocker cover back on. Agree with the other re exhaust/cat.

Russ.

Yes it was - basically it's in good condition but the drivers door is rusty. Haven't had chance to check the running yet as I found the passenger door lock was damaged inside - so had to repair that and then the washer bottle was leaking so had to replace that.

I am hoping to give it another good run this week and see what happens and then if it is still playing up I will check the valve clearances.

Thanks to all who replied for you help and support

Main place to watch out for rust that will fail it the MOT is the inner wings at the front. Seems that mud gets thrown up there and eventually the water finds it's way in. If it was terribly bad you'd have noticed when replacing the washer bottle though.

Valve clearances are worth doing regardless as it can improve fuel efficiency if they're off. Once you've figured out what you're doing and looking for, it's an easy job. If not full service history at a Skoda dealer it may have been neglected.

Is it the green one? If so looks very tidy for the money. Looks like it has the special edition alloys.
