Tuning box orrrrrrr remap?

Featured Replies

Looks like it'll be time to book Octimus Prime in for a remap, or get hold of a tuning box.

I've seen tuning boxes advertised for sale, at a very low price compared to the remap available, and would like to know if it's as competent as a remap?

I was considering JKM in Portsmouth for the mapping. Any testimonies?

Suggestions, comments, etc all welcomed.

Remap every time. Personally for me it'd be Shark with STS. Must be nearly time for another Shark group buy? :giggle:

Well, that seems fairly unanimous!

Where is this 'Shark' that you speak of..? Alas, my car cannot swim...

Did somebody say Shark?

.... no..? :p

I heard some mumblings about diagnostics and clearing things up... if I bring my gorgeous, but TLC-craving, L&K PD130 up to you, would you be able to make me a happy, happy mushroom?

I got Revo'd at J.K.M and would recomend them, exellent service and very helpfull

JKM are very good - otherwise there are many posts that describe tuning box vs remap so please take time and search

another plus 1 few months could be perfect. :)

I'd say that it depends whether your car is your own or a leasing (company's) car.

If it's your own, then definitely remap and purchase another ECU box just for the inspection etc.

Remapping is a safer way to spice up your car than a tuning box.

But if your car is a leasing (company's) car (like my SuperB Greenline), I'd go for the tuning box since it's easy to dismount from the car for the maintenance garage visits etc. If you'd like to change the ECU box for the maintenance garage visit or inspection, you'd probably need a diagnostic tool to do that. With a tuning box dismounting is all you need.

Maybe needless to say but remapping replaces the original motor management software of your car but a tuning box only "fools" the original software by giving more fuel than it normally would and thus creating more horsepowers and torque. I.e. with the tuning box the horsepower and torque curve characterictics will stay approx. the same but with the remapping you can alter those ones as well.

Thanks everyone. Got given a £20 JKM voucher for Christmas by a good friend- looks like once I've found my feet regarding intercooling and that malarky, I'll be heading on down there...
