Two questions...?

Featured Replies

I need some help of you guys with some questions I have..

1. Since lowering my car even more when I got smaller wheels there has been a sqeak comming from the driver side only at very low speed when going over small bumps, could this be my bushes? And how much does polybushes cost?

2. What do I need to check on my car to make it suitable for the winter, my anti freeze is just below minimum so will I need to fill it up?

Help would be appreciated :)

Jay

Shudnt matter weather its winter or not u should keep ur antifreeze between min and max. As for the squeak check ur drop links arent catching the driveshafts

I had a squeak after lowering my car 100mm and it turned out to be the top mount you would get more of a knocking noise if I was a drop link

Yeah it's not the drop links because I have put shortened ones in

As for the top mount how will I know if it's the top mount that's the problem?

So what do I do? Just pour anti freeze into the coolant bottle?

Because it's winter id just put neat antifreeze in mate. Make sure it's g12 vag antifreeze.

Only use G12 VAG antifreeze.....pink in colour.....anything else is ###t...in vag engines.... B)

G12 might come labels Plus or Plus +......dosn't matter as both are pink and correct....just that the Plus + version is longer life....I think... :wonder:

This the right one?

And is it just a matter of opening the coolant bottle and pouring it in because some people have said that it is pressured? Thanks mate

As long as you do it with the engine cold you'll be fine, don't do it with it hot/warm though. Don't mix the colour, G12+ is the better stuff and is pink, but G12 is also fine and is blue (if I remember correctly). If you have blue, don't put pink in, and vice versa. Halfords do a G12+ standard pre-mixed antifreeze, I have a bottle in the kitchen for topping up etc.

It's pink in it at the moment so with the g12 plus plus do the job? And does it just poor straight in so I don't need I dilute it? Cheers

I'd dilute it with deionised water 50/50. I keep a spare bottle to dilute it into. If you just keep pouring neat coolant in eventually bad things might happen, it states on the bottle to dilute it for a reason :).

G12+ is not longer life, it just cures an issue with the pink stuff reacting with the blue/green stuff to form a gel, and mixes fine with the G12 (non +) stuff that your car was originally filled with.

IIRC the stuff in Halfords (Halfords brand) is of G12 spec, not G12+. But this does not matter so long as you don't go adding the blue/green stuff to it.

Might be better to get a hydrometer first to find out the strength of your antifreeze (or try one of the free check places). If it's 50% ,then readymix 50/50 will be ok undiluted .If it's less than 50% then you'll need full strength and some method of calculating the amount needed .

Just remember a etheleyne glycol hydrometer doesn't work with propoleyne glycol, you need a refractometer to measure G12.

G11 was blue and has been discontinued.

G12++ is current and the one to use, G12 and G12+ have also been discontinued.

jack it up and turn the wheel side to side and it should make the squeaking noise you can here or if it was as bad as mine the top mount will skip when been turned

The amount of antifreeze you are going to put in to top up is very little compared to the total amount in the system so neat is no problem. just make sure it's the right stuff.

So yeah I'm a little confused..

The anti freeze in it at the moment is pink an it just above the minimum mark so do I need to fill it up?.If so what would you recommend to get? The original G12? Please help as its getting colder and colder.. Haha

Jay

Just go to the dealers and ask for a 1lt bottle of G12 plus...then pour some of that in and some clean water (50/50mix)......G12 has ben superceeded by G12 plus, and that has been superceeded by G12plus+.....they are all compatable with each other if they are pink..... B)

If the antifreeze is above the min mark and the engine is cold there is no need to add any. If it is hot you need to check it when cold. Original G12 will be fine, anything else I would speak to a VAG dealer, though I'm sure the info given previously is kosher.
