I found this while browsing LED's,one of the best explanations I've seen, and might clear up a few things.

Thanks, Anzio that's illuminating

I have in fact notified my insurers, (Allianz via Skoda) they were happy but noted the change.

All my modifications are notified and confirmed by letter. Interestingly I was expecting quite a premium hike this year - in fact it's gone up by < £20 p.a. On that basis I'll not bother to surf the market, given that Skoda seem comfortable with my various mods and it saves going through all those hoops again!

Hi,

Got the same reply from my insurers, (E-sure via Sainsburys) only catch is, if I make an amendment to my policy mid-term it incurs an administration fee of £26. Luckily I'm not far off renewal so will inform them then.

So...

If the led blows then because the resistor is still drawing current the bulb failure warning won't be triggered.

With the "resistor in series" design, if an LED fails the circuit is broken and no current will flow. The elec-tricks will spot this and flag a bulb failure as normal.
