I've got a clip of my winter tyres on my car from an outside camera just driving down the doad (with no snow or ice) if you want to see it? :giggle:

Isn't a forum like this to educate the uneducated on certain topics? Due to the weather a big one is tyres and as its safety related I say fair enough to those who ask.

Maybe we could start a diesel vs petrol again or a manual vs dsg just to liven it up for you?

God you sound like fun at the weekends :giggle:

I agree with taff

You can't ALL be front line workers who HAVE to get to work.

Stay at home and off the roads you HEROES !

I always tell the boss that if a single snow flake settles on my drive, I'm "working from home"

There is a specific tyre forum. I too am sick of hearing about winter tyres. How on earth did we manage before we had them? Oh yes, we drove more carefully, and were accutely aware of the road conditions.

The envy of soft rubber is sad to behold! You know you need them and are in denial - that's what it is. I have a courtesy car today (a 1.2HTP Fabia) with summer tyres and it's a bit chilly and damp - I can barely manage to lay down the power or stay on the road!

It was a bad decision getting rid of the Winter Tyre 'sticky' at the top of the page as at least people used it ! And more importantly you only went in it if interested in the subject.

How strange. I drove my Octavia VRS on its "summer" tyres around the M25 and down the A3 last night with temperatures below 2.5 degrees C and damp all the way and experienced no problems laying down quite a lot more power or for that matter staying on the road. ;)

Not sure many people looked at it June-Sept though!

Someone will be telling us how they managed to get up Mount Everest in their Scout with winter wheels, whilst achieving 57mpg in a diesel !

Branded fuel v. Supermarket fuel anyone?

If you don't like them don't read them. Simples.

Yes, and by the looks of it, there is a massive education needed here for tires. These things should be taught during the theoretical/driving test, backed up by rigid Police/MOT enforcement, so as my beloved UK people do not look silly in TV during winters surprising snow fall never seen since Queen Victoria, driving in their shiny no-thread-left summer tires.

And all these threads about tires, is a good sign that finally smart drivers are taking notice of the most important car part that keeps them on the road safe. Of course there are as much macho tough drivers taking pride in making it in summer tires in snow down to local Tesco. Ignore them.

In all seriousness,in my opinion of course, there should be a tyre sticky for all the many many many many threads on all things tyre.

Maybe mods could do a clean up as many posts have already been addressed in another thread.

Maybe a separate sub-forum for those of us who love the smell of new rubber! And while you're at it another for those that keep telling us they've just ordered X,Y or Z derivative, or that its on a boat or at Emden, or that it's at the dealer. Strangely that happens to all new VW group cars. By all means tell us after you've taken delivery, but unless it's absolutely unique it's just vehicle logistics.

At least with separate sub-forums you can just avoid them - a bit like the sport section in the newspaper (although very handy for starting the fire).

Funnily enough there is a dedicated tyre forum here: http://briskoda.net/forums/forum/213-tyres/

And the first pinned topic is about the ever popular subject of winter tyres.

Problem is, people don't seem able to find it, or want something model specific (?) and so just post in the regular car forums...
